• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How do people communicate with them - send a runner with forked stick, or maybe smoke signals?? Why have a webpage (for what it is worth) with an e-mail address but no one replies??? Yes someone is going to say call them = from S.Africa - NOT.

How expensive is it to call?

What is the time difference?

Looks like call at your time 8 pm. Would be 10 am his time.

9-5 Pacific time, M-Sat.

Maybe a short call to get him looking for your e-mail. He answers mine but I've seen how many he gets. He's a one man show. Crash, his trusty 4 legged, blind and deaf helper passed away this last year.

Yes, the web site is not active.

He does business with Trooper Lu in Australia so he's got nothing against foreigners.;)

I've never met George, but I will some day. Real Old School (that's good!) and evidently sells cash or COD only. Almost always answers the phone, but when he's busy.......not. Maybe you could find someone who lives close to his shop to run interference some weekend, or just write if your question is complicated. I know George reads this blog and ADV but I'm not sure how often. You just have to go with the flow and not expect things from Uptite to happen at the same pace we've all grown to expect.

Yeah, leave your request here and I'll print them up and get it to him down the street. I'm there once a week anyway.

He has to attend to other business sometimes and leaves the shop,....doctor, going to local suppliers to get his levers, or maybe lunch. Not hooked to a cell phone so he has to be in shop to answer. Never see him answering phone on the golf course.;)

Download Skype (free) and call him from the computer to his phone for cheap.

What, George allows himself to have a ... gasp! ... LIFE?

One of these days I'll make it way down there (SF Bay Area here) and say hello. I should probably get off my butt and order a skid plate from him, though.

glangston, next time you visit Uptite take a couple photos and post it here, haha Then it will become clear to everyone, half Old School and half mad scientist. You're lucky if you can find a pathway from the front door up to his counter. For Husky fans it is Orange County's best attraction, not even Disneyland compares.

Even THAT has been inconsistent lately!! A few visits ago all up front was clear... Last visit front was as usual once again but there was walking space around some of the tool setups in the back.. WTF!!?? I thought I was in the wrong place.... Got to rip on a TE 250 and TX 310 a lil though...Thanks George.. My buddy from Steamboat that's thinkin about trying somethin besides his pumpkin loved it !!!...

OK - understood, no offence meant to the gent ;). I had heard it was a somewhat traditional operation but did not realise it was a one man band - certainly makes some good pieces and picked up a great throttle tube and was just interested in some other stuff. If he does only cash and COD probably not worth hassling the old legend. May he continue to service the Husky needs of those with the a direct line, down the street or with 'the force'.

You can buy most his stuff through more tech friendly places to buy I believe.. Like maybe Bill, halls, motoexotica etc.. Im sure others here known more bout that..of course seriously, if you ever want to know why he builds or does/recommends something a certain way, a call works Im sure.
Once you make a connection with him he is very helpful and accommadating. Even with his "old school ways" Ive never had a problem recieving many of his parts shipped to me at different hotels all around the country. :)

Called last Friday, 2 emails during the week and another call this Friday. All sorted and once I send the money order, the parts are in the mail. :applause: George was good to deal with, maybe not the most convenient payment methods. But for top notch parts, I'll work within the rules.

For foreign shipments I think the way it would work is to call him first and order the parts, then get a total including shipping (and insurance if you want). If you send that amount ((in US$$$) to George he will ship to you. If he is not on the hook for lost or stolen shipments he will do these foreign shipments. He has recourse and insurance with his domestic shipments and the COD works. This is the impression I got from talking to him yesterday.

Like I said, he is one guy, so he does a bit of everything and to some extent chooses what he works on.

Only bought small stuff so far. first time I sent money first, next time I was in a hurry cause another vendor held me up on my engine and I lost a thrust washer in the process. george sent the part with an invoice which I promptly paid. Never had better service!

I read this thread back in february and was feeling the same way as BiG DoM
But the replies from everyone else convinced me to persevere.

Mid january i contacted George about a Skid plate for my new TE630
11weeks, 8 emails and 2 phone calls later and he still has not come back to me about when he could send one over.

Yesterday i went to the local husqvarna dealer and bought one from them. Not as good as the uptite model but how much longer should i be prepared to wait.

Might be workable for locals to purchase from him, but to anyone living out side of the USA i would say dont bother.

You might try contacting Trooper Lu's in Australia. George sends him quantities of stuff and I know just shipped some a few days back.
