• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Well I missed the 2017 Unadilla vintage rewind, but attended this years, and meet up with my old Husky buddys in NY state, and this year Gary drove all the way up from Texas with a surprise.

Gary brought with him a jewel , a restored 1982 Husky 250CR, he built for our good friend
Frank.

And boy was it a hit

Frank was stoked! He said he was sleeping with it wrapped in his arms. Excellent job Gary! Hi John and Gary! This Pete, now I remember my stage name ;)

Looks like a serious machine. How did the engine turn out? Does the custom expansion chamber enhance the mid range?

Gary wasn't able to finish all the details, before he arrived on Friday, so we pitched in getting her a little farther along.
We pulled the carb off, as it was void of all jets, changed the throttle cable for a long one, tighten a bunch of bolts, tried to get the chain roller on, but fell short of that task.
Joe, Frank, Gary, Ed & myself in a few hours, got her ready to fire, for a couple of heat cycles. She start nicely & purred like a real cat, very impressive in deed.
I'll post some closer up pics, tomorrow, and Gary, should be able to ring in with the details of what he all did to it ,soon, he's still on the road back to 115 degree heat, poor guy.

Ok, here's a few bike being working on pics...

Here's a few close ups of this jewel... Pipe came from Down-under (Aussie), & i think Gary said its a CR bottom end with a WR top end with maybe some porting.

Here's Frank the proud Papa of his new toy... this bike drew people to it, like a moth to a flame

1st thing out of most was "WOW, who Husky's is that?"

Thank you all for the great feedback. Well goal was to create the opposite of Franks 83 CR less pipey bike. So based on Joes feedback from last year we installed a 82 Wr Cylinder, no porting just cleaned up ports and transfers, added a v force reed block.

Pipe was created with help here from cafe husky members !!! Yes folks here from cafe down under got a bike down to Geoff Morris shop and he created the a first for him, he created this nice piece of art work of a pipe for the 250. He has the pattern for more.

Odds and ends - Tank paint is Husky club formula with a bit a extra drying time between coats , raises the red pigment to top for brighter red. My Texas paint supplie shop , says humm why not take out this percentage of the Silver formula ( the husky club 84 chrysler to give a brighter silver) Engine has the later all steel hub , later 5 speed tranny ( had great condition gears for this build ) All SKF bearings and tried the these 7075 rims for the first time. And a few black mods to gears and shift barrel.

Well I have the same bike with no mods. I'm interested in the WR cylinder, maybe a pipe. Curious how much difference a V Force makes with the rest of the mods.

Another Husky guy at Unadilla said a flywheel and some other mods worked well. He's an old dealer- Frank has his number. My jetting may still be an issue too.

The 1980 250CR engine I worked on has the Motoplat Mini 6 ignition with external flywheel. I am not familiar with what the 82 250CR uses but the heavier external flywheel help to smooth out the powerband compared to an internal flywheel

You may need to change the stub end to use it. I have a crank from an 84 250CR and the rotor taper is smaller than the WR cranks I have.
