  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ummm, how bad is this? SMR511.

At the track the other day I was taking the spark arrestor/noise baffle out to notice a solid metallic build up on the baffle and inside of the pipe, it doesn't come of when scratched by finger nails. In the past 8000km the only build up in the pipe or on the baffle had been carbon build up so I'm perplexed and a little worried.

There been no loss of power (can pull a yzf450 on the straights), there has been more oil out the breather since replacing the torque limiter. Anyone able to shed light on where this aluminum looking build up would come from?IMG_20140530_190803.jpg IMG_20140530_190700.jpg

Is it just me, or does the baffle look a little distorted.
Looks like the metal is just over heated.
Looks a lot like exhaust tubing that has had an oxy torch held on it......
Hard to say looking on a phone screen :(

It actually looks like oxidation to me....the metal is getting so hot that the water vapor in the exhaust is causing extreme oxidation?

If your spark plug looks good, I would not worry. Other option is that you are burning coolant and it is creating some weird build up in the can.....

Just hook compressed air into the cyl at TDC and see if there is much leakage past the rings..

Haven't even looked at the bike since my last track day, won't get a chance to pull the spark plug out for a week or two.

Minor update, haven't taken the plug out but with the baffle removed the inside of the exhaust is starting to blacken up again with carbon, no sign of any more metallic build up.
