    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Bit confused....am I right that the old wre125 from around 2002 is actually a trail bike with inferior forks and small carb and autolube but that the new wre125 from about 2011 is actually a proper roadmregistered race enduro version?
 
Later WRE models as far as I know are still nowhere near the spec as a WR althought look very simular. All WRs are or can be made road legal. Late WR 125s are imported with restictors fitted ie a bit of plastic in the carb so it wont open fully, Perhaps this is what may be confusing you.
 
I have the 05 wre, it's the same as the wr from that year bar several things, yes it has autolube with tank under the seat for oil, the carb is a 28mm dellorto with the oil feed running off the side down to the oil pump by the clutch, they came putting out about 14/15 hp from 1997 onwards, rathr than the 30 hp mark the wr did as they were restricted, more for road use, oh, and the cylinder's are different at the front, the powervalves are either bigger or smaller for broader power rather than the wr's/ cr's more explosive high end, they are 12mm vs 18mm [not sure which one for which model]. The cr and wr has a mikuni 36 or 38mm, or a tmx I believe? Everything else is the same as far as I know, I have a bunch of wr and cr parts on mine. Now husky did some deal with ktm lately, so in 2011 ish they stopped the wre/ sms versions and made premix only bikes, based on the ktm exc 125, it looks like there are no longer any cbt legal 125's as they put out 30 hp standard instead, any questions just ask
 
Thanks, guys. So the WRE and the WR were available until the end....so now I know this I could do with learning about the difference between these two WR versions. Anything to help me decide between these two bikes? I think the white frame one is the later lighter bike?

I must confess the pipe and large alloy tank also appeal but what are those large red coolant pipes all about?
 
the first listing has ended, unless you bought it? I would go for the second bike, 1800 is a good price still. Coolant pipes, if they're any other colour apart from black they're probably after market ones, samco and chinese guys have them on ebay for 50 to 100 ish. Second guy has also put about warming up before riding so assuming he knows what happens if you start and ride off straight away on one of these :D If it's got a standard tank btw , range out of mine is maybe 65/70 miles before I hit reserve, that's 8 or 9 litres so could expect about that out the wr
 
If it was my money I would of bought the first one, second one would of clocked a load of road miles methinks.
 
whats your intentions regarding the bike you're trying to get????
i've got an 03 wre which i use for green laning/trail riding and ticks all the boxes, and on a personel level i like the autolube, but if they go wrong:eek::eek:
and there's no "in, out shake it all about, you do the okey cokey nonsense on garage forecourts
 
Brisk trail riding, some hare and hounds and a 165 kit is what I want to do.....brother in law had an early wre and it was not fast enough
 
Having a wr and a sms the engines are quite different

looks are the same but internals not

some SMS features compared to WR

the SMS is a 2011 and the WR is a 2002

the frame is a world of difference (the SMS is a better one as the WR and the WR is already very good compared with other bikes)

gear box is different (and especially from 3rd gear and up) for "tame" road riding OK for wheelying through town and hooligan riding get some serious sprocket changes.

I am spoiled so my WR is a 165 with a lectron and FMF fatty exhaust.

the SMS will get the same treatment.

ignitions different in timing and curve.

I am getting a CR one with a light coil for the small electronics load and a the few lights

more important, see the bike as a hobby when spending all the money on it instead of a project that have to make money

for sure the smiles it will generate it's worth the money and having the perfect bike for you the way you want is great but in the end you will not that far of with the pending as if you would buy a much newer old bike (but not ideally perfect set up for you)
