  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TYRE SIZE TE 511

rhys251

Husqvarna
B Class
Replaceing the tyres on the 511 but the standard rear is 140/80/18. Im looking at the bridgestone 404 and the pirelli xc mid to hard. I just ride bush, some rocks sand just the average terrain nothing to bad. Do i stick with the same size or go to a 120 or 110. I dont know much about the effects of the different sizes what would you guys recommend for the rear and the front. and also what tyres would you recommend for grip and long lasting.

Thanks

I'm after a new rear donut for my TE449.
Im gunna give a Bridgestone 404, in a 110/100/18 a go in the medium compound.
My only concern is that it may wear out quicker than my wallet would like it to.
Time will tell.
Cheers

The bridgestone still wears OK, just not like steel of a Pirelli MX Extra.
Superb performance though.

I am a big fan of the XCMH on my TE450, really stiff sidewalls, and provided me with good traction across rocks sand, dirt, mud, even snow. Here it is with 500 dual sport miles on it. 140/80x18

Wow... I just went for a quick ride with the new Bridgestone 404 on the rear of the 449. What a massive difference this tyre makes. I thought the bike hooked up pretty well before but with the new Bridgestone on the back it is insane how well it puts the power down.
IMO the CTS is going to come in to it's own with a good tyre on the arse end.
Thanks SAM for the advice.

Since we are on the tyre thing here, my stupid question is.....I just purchased a 2012 TE511. Tyre size is 140 /80 /18. The rim size is 2.15 x 18
What tyre sizes are acceptable for this rim and bike? There are not a lot of choices for 140/80/18

Sizes that are compatible and work well are :

110/110 X 18
120/90 X 18

The european sizing of Michelin does make it confusing.

Thanks for clearing up the sizing, I am in the same boat even though I havent picked my bike up yet! ( 2 weeks just getting the tyres the bike comes with replaced ). Has anyone had any experiences with Maxxis IT tyres as my dealer recommended them to me??

I just threw a set of thoughs on and they look good ! Haven't road with them yet but spoke with some guys who have used them down in Baha/ general desert and said they do good... The rear is a 120/100/18 ... Good clearance between tire and mud flap still ... I'm running a 13t front so it puts my axle back a little.....http://m1208.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/rearwheelin/Mobile Uploads/IMG_3340.jpg.html?o=0

I will post any clearance issue next Wednesday if any.... I guess the 120/100/18 could possibly bottom on the fender/fuel tank more so than the sizes mentioned by SAM511.... My gearing has allowed me to run my axle slightly back from stock so will keep finger crossed...

cheers I look forward to reading you feed back.

Rode it today and bottomed rear end out a few times with no clearance issues..... I am running a Scotts dampener too and wow, this bikes power delivery is way more mellow than a MX 450, and boy does mine handle the high speed chop well after some suspension adjustment ! With the 13t made slow crawling effortless ! This bike is solid for offroad !

Thats good to hear mate, I am yet to ride mine as I'm currently stuck in Afghanistan due to bad weather. But atleast everything will be done by the time I get home to ride it.

P.S I am running out of accessories to buy/ put on my bike. I might have to look at a steering dampener aswell.

Hey Glenn hows the TE449 going ?
Where are you at with the suspension & JD settings ?
I am curious as we are both basically at sea level and run in similar sand or sandy mallee terrain.
I knew you would love the Bridgestone 404 rear. The front in an 80/100 is similarly excellent. I found that the 90/100 tires are worse in sand as they wander too much, but in harder and rocky terrain they are better.

Hey Sam,
Work keeps getting in the way of the bike riding at the moment.
I have not played with the suspension to much but plan to in the near future.
I have played around with the JD settings quite a bit. I have settings I like written down at home, I get home next Tuesday and I will let you know.
Last ride I tried the manufacturers recommended settings for the full race exhaust.
The bike ran well but drank the fuel, I ran out of fuel about 10k from home(empty at 89k).
On the more conservative settings I was getting around 110 k to a tank with a few more k up my sleeve.
The Bridgestone 404 works a treat over at Canunda National Park, but is going to wear quickly on the dirt roads getting to Canunda.
I think I will try the Pirelli option next up.
What front tyre are you running?
I have noticed since I have added the Motosportz steering damper I am riding alot quicker in the soft rutted sand and am thinking a more suitable front tyre may be needed?

Get the Steering dampener !..... I was running threw chop in 6th gear bottoming front and rear ....after suspension tunning and running threw the chop all I needed to do was stand up/balance my wieght and pin throttle ! Amazing how much faster they will allow you to go with less effort ! The Scotts is what I am running and the sub-mount for it will raise your bars 1" .... It's tits..... I am 6'2" and 200 dry , my suspension feels good so far and should do the job well for me.....my bike is a2012 model and my settings are this turning from right to left; fork comp 9 , reb 6 ; stock shock preload : comp 3 , reb 5 , high speed is tuned up all the way to the right 100%.... These setting may not give me a catilack ride but are ideal for for me and rocky/loose/sandy/choppy/square edge /rutted/hard pack/medium to large jumps running at intermediate-fast speeds for conditions...... I find these settings will allow me to stay planted and in control so far.... May tweak it more later though but it's a good starting point for me...... I am allmost in revalve territory with these settings lol
