  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TXC511 w Zip Ty vent

I recently installed the Zip-Ty 449/511 engine vent relocator kit on my 2011 TXC511. For now it is attached to the stock vent hose leading to the clean side of the air filter box.

Changed oil and put in 1150cc of 0-40. Then I took it out to the Millican Oregon State Hare Scrambles and rode the 40 mile loop as a test rider plus a couple of 60 mph runs up and down the highway for 4-5 miles, then a GP at Eddieville for over an hour, fast course with a fair amount of high RPM running, followed by a few laps at Washougal at a fairly sedate pace. Today I opened up the airbox to see how it looks in there.

Clean side air horn has just a slight mist of oil. This is also what it looked like when running 850cc of oil with the standard breather setup. In other words, it all looks normal on the clean side.

Dirty side of the airbox has a little splooge around the mounting posts. No puddles, and no dripping out the drain hole. And I am still amazed how little dirt even makes it to the dirty side of the airbox...this side hasnt had a good cleaning in months and the filter was barely dirty next to the air intake and pretty much spotless everywhere else.

My conclusion is that the Zip-Ty vent alone with 1150cc of oil is a perfectly viable setup, and a nice improvement over stock. Now I need to install the one I just ordered for the TXC449!!

That is good news. Mine should be coming soon. I bought the vent, tank and filler cap.
Glad you had good luck with the mod.

My breather (no tank) is in the hands of AU Customs, Fedex should have them to me tomorrow :D R&D Husky will install them and remap the bike when I drop the bike off for it's 5000km service.

Then I just have to wait another month or so before I can ride again, stupid collarbone!

Sustained high rpm runs will blow more oil out of the ZipTy breather. 0W40 really helps because it does not expand in volume to the size of heavier weighted oils. Keep us posted on your testing and thanks for choosing ZipTy products! :D

The 449, which is street legal, will give me more opportunity to try extended higher rpm running. I wont be surprised if a tank is in order on that one.

Did you tee into the stock breather line or did you plug the stock line out of the case and re-route to the air box from the Zip-ty vent?

P1020004.JPG P1010997.JPGI'm not getting the clean results you are, but I think the main idea is to reroute hot gas from the torc limiter.

Were you able to run a tee fitting and a drain back plug? Or are you running straight back to the air filter?
I have those tees on my plumbing truck also in poly alloy (hard plastic) Zipty discontinued the oil fill plug so I was going to order a stock replacement before I take a grinder , drill, and tap to mine. Thanks for the follow up Tinken! P S hoping to get it done this week for Saturday ride at silverwood:)
