  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TXC310R Top End Rebuild

Hi Guys,
I am up to 135 hours on my 2013 TXC310R and it is getting a little smoky. I can get through a days riding (5 hours) without a top-up but not two. The engine oil/ filter and air cleaner is serviced regularly and the valve clearances where still original at 100 hours. The bike is not raced and just used for single track trail riding.
Some questions:
1. Is this normal for the TXC? 150 hours / top end work?
2. Are there any aftermarket kits I should consider that are better value/km than the OEM?
3. Anything I should look at before a rebuild?
My shop recommends ordering a piston kit, valves seals and gaskets early to avoid the wait.

Well I am waiting for a tendon to heal in my arm from surgery (non-motorcycle related). No bikes or kayaks for at least 6 weeks though my surgeon would prefer 3 months.

In the mean time I have been researching the parts situation for TXC310R piston kits. There seem to be more pistons cheaper and available for the 2012 model which has a different part number to the 2013. Can anybody tell me the difference between the the two years re piston?

Regards

Hi Guys, well I have been able to get 190+ hours before a top end rebuild. The oil usage has remained constant but I am not going to risk it. I have all the parts and probably more than I need.

I am looking for a reference to doing a top end rebuild for this bike as the workshop manual covers engine removal and complete disassembly which is a bit extreme.

Any advice guys? References to material and/or real world experience gratefully accepted.

Regards
