  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So looking at the 449

Longtime KTM rider

Huskies seem to have a lot of technology per $

Have searched the web for reasons not to buy one

The only thing I have found is its weight and Chilly White said his test machine (2011) felt like the rear suspension was binding. I have not heard that mentioned anywhere else. Figure it might be an isolated issue. My buddies 2012 KTM 300's front forks were clunking like the front end was about to fall off so issue like that can show up on any brand

So have there been any major issues with these bikes? Is everyone pleased with their 449's?

First the disclaimer... I do not own one of these but I read this site daily on these bikes and Huskies in general as I do own a 08 TXC250 .. since the release of that bike in the states < 1 yr ago, there has not really been any bad reports on it of any magnitude... The rear chain guide was reported to be wrong on a few bikes is about all I can remember being said bad about the bike ... There is always gonna be some suspension issues that will need to be sorted out on any new bike ... And many say the bike with the CTS system does feel different from all other bikes and that is about it ... The efi system seems solid ....

If you are a 450 guy, can deal with the looks, tank under the seat ... This should be a very good bike for yrs to come ...

Bought a 2011 TC449 two weeks ago and have rode it twice. First time was in sand, second time was in wet clay mud. Neither are much fun if you don't trust your bike. I am happy to report that the TC is easy peasy to ride in ugly conditions. It's stable, the rear hooks up, and the motor and clutch are darn near perfect.

The only time it surprised me was when it found traction I would never have dared expect on my other bikes, like through the goop, or on a mild g-out... How does it do that?

I am very eager to get it out on the hardpack for TT racing or take it for a spin around a groomed MX track.

very superficial ride report here: http://t.co/8bAkt9hj

Go swing by alpinepowersports. Not sure how far away you are.

Yeah going to do that on Wednesday after I get back from Vegas.

This bike is not to replace my 505 but to supplement my stable. Was looking at maybe the WR300 to go 2 stroke too. The 449 is more appealing from the advance design side than the 300.

Thanks for all the input. My main reason for inquiring is to make sure there were no major issues with the bike. Very impressive that there seems to be no major issues with a totally new bike release. KTM I can't claim that. Their RF4 motor had oil pump issues when it first came out. The XC4 had oil transfer issues between the tranny and engine side. And then the valve seal issues and burning oil, etc, etc.

I have had none of that with my 505 because I have kept on top if it. It is now setup perfectly for me.

It would nice to have something a little different and the Husky seems to fit the bill.

Having ridden both i would get the 449/511 over the WR300.

449 good on single track? Not too heavy?

for what it is (full sized E-start DS bike) it is very good on single track. As long as you keep moving the bike feels lighter than it is and works great. the motor is smooth and flexible and works with you. i ahve no issues hustling through single track on mine. No issues hanging with a well setup KTM 350 and 390 Berg.

Enmerdur I know I will see you wednesday but you don't have to buy a bike without trying it out first! Bring your truck when you come and we can load you up with a demo bike. You'll love it!

+2 to what Motosportz and kreig said. I own a TXC511 and a WR300... the 300 got so lonely I ended up selling it. Both great bikes but the 511 made me smile even more than the 300. The 511 is great in any condition and a vast improvement from the CRF450X Honda that was my last big bore. My favorite feature is the handling with the CTS setup, and the fantastic power is icing on the cake.

449 good on single track? Not too heavy?

I ride an 06 YZ250 and and 11 TE449. I originally bought the 449 to use for desert riding and dual sport trips, and keep the YZ as my single track/woods bike. I have had the same experience as others, I ride the TE more than the YZ. I can go faster on the YZ, but only slightly. I can however ride the TE all day on the same stuff. The only time the TE's weight is really an issue is in the really slow tight rocky or rutted stuff. Its also not quite as easy to get up ledges and steps, but I manage. Once moving its is much easier to ride, the weight just slows me down a bit.

Sorry, slight hijack...Little twin, can you share your stock suspension adjustments? Several of us are trying to dial in our bikes. So far the advise has been crank the adjusters in, and crank the adjusters out. Total opposites.

I have th '11 tc 449 on the track its not heavy at all single track it feels a bit heavy but I came from a yz 250 2 stoke the motor is good on single track and on track its good to I haven't had a prob with the shock I havent touched it really but for moto the forks are extremely soft and I only way 165ish geard up
