  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

OK I know there is most likely an answer to my question on here somewhere but I do not have the time to do a search so please indulge me without too much hassle however, I am being lazy.

I am looking for a mid size bike to dual sport. I will do most of my riding in the woods but would like something to make the 200 mile round trip to my favorite riding area if needed. The road riding would be done on paved 55mph two lane hilly highways. Now I like the more dirt specifiactions of the TXC but I have also thought about the 449 and 511 but I am worried that Husky will change these bikes once the motor contract is up and parts will then become hard to find. I have also looked at converting a Honda CRF-450x which is simple to do in my state.

What are your thought on the above?

Thanks for you replies,

Mike

I've riden the 2011 txc449 on street and dirt and have a te310. I would never want to ride 200 miles on my te310. If I was going to do that much road riding, I'd seriously consider trading to a txc449. The problem with the te310 is that to make it good in the really tight stuff you have to gear it down and it makes it not so good on the street. The tranny on the te310 is really really tight.

I also thought the 449 has smoother shifting and just felt comfortable on the road vs the te310, which I can't hardly stand to ride on the road. In fact, I am buying a truck just so I don't have to ride it the 10 miles on the street to get to my riding place.

From what I hear the 449 motor is well built, so if you do proper maintenance you should have no long term issues.

+ What husky72082 said. It's a lousy dual-sport bike in the traditional sense. It's more of a dirt bike with a plate for connecting trails with short pavement runs. Too bad, because the 310 would be great in the woods..

I have a '12 TE310 and for road work it is a non-starter. As others have said it's strictly for short bits of lower speed road to connect trails. Honestly a 200 mile round trip of road work is TE630 territory but it's not much of a woods bike. I had a TXC449 and I would hate like hell to do a 200 mile road trip on it. I think you really have to rethink being able to do a 200 mile round trip of slab and still have much of an offroad ride. A 200 mile slab trip is best left to a 630 type of dually.

I hear you on the distance thing but that would only be an extreme example. Usually we will trailer to the area then utilize the plate to access more areas. I feel I would lean more to the TXC/TE 449 since I may have the chance to pick up a 2011 for less than $5000.00. It really will come down to money and if I want to install road legal lights to get the more aggressive suspension. It may be best to just go with the TE and have a re-valve instead but it will come down to which one I can get for the best price. Thanks for the above replies.
