  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC TXC 310 turns into FE 350

looks like you have already added a few goodies for to that thing. shifter, suspension, rad guards, skid plate, and maybe a few other goodies. great looking ride.

Went out for a 100k ride today, and i have to say the fE 350 is FREAKNIG AWESOME****************************************! :awww::love::banana::applause:

The bike and i hit it off almost instantly, by the end of the first track i had a massive grin on my face, and i knew i made the right decision by getting the FE instead of theTXC.

The motor is amazing, so torquey, and when you grab a handful of throttle it builds speed very quickly and before you know it you're going faster than you wanted too!! You can lug this thing around in third gear and its happy, then a flick of the clutch has it screaming its head off!! I didn't have it pinned in 6th but at one stage i was doing 130 kph and it still had more to give.
1st gear is way to short and is virtually useless, except for steep downhills, the other 5 gears are spot on

Handling wise the bike is excellent. i was concerned that by being heavier than my TC 250 i wouldn't be able to throw the bike around, and i would be slow in the single track, boy was i surprised!! the bike handles exceptionally well and i found my self throwing the bike around and having a ball and riding better and faster than i did the weekend before on the same tracks on my TC 250.
The 4cs forks are fantastic, the are very plush and soak up most trail trash with ease and have great bottoming resistance, i won't need to have anything done to them, i will just play with clicker settings
The shock was really good, although i might spend some time playing with rebound as it kicked a few times going over logs and some tree roots, i also need to set the sag correctly.

It isn't particularly thirsty either, after 100k's i still had about 3 litres left, i reckon i could comfortably get 130 km out of a tank of fuel

The only negatives are the front brake is no where near as strong as the TC 250, the rear is equally as good and the gear lever needs to be 10mm longer and i only wear a size 10 boot.

Other than those two things i absolutely loved the bike and had a ball getting to know her, and i didn't have to carry fuel or kick start the bloody thing.

I just read the ride test in Dirt Bike. They loved it too. How does the ergos, engine and tranny compare to your 310 ?

Ergos are are a fair bit different, the first time I got on it I thought, this thing feels wierd! Particularly when seated, as the seat and pegs are closer together, bar positioning isn't a problem as there's six different positions to choose from and when you add raisers you should be able to find something that suits.
Engine wise, it's fantastic as it has heaps of torque and a great bottom end, it also revs like a 250 yet you can ride it a gear higher no problems at all. The X-Lights have no bottom end and need to be reved to be kept in the sweet spot and struggle on long up hills, and the 350 doesn't.
As far as the transmission goes, for the riding I do most which is tight technical single trail the X-Light gear box is slightly better but I don't always ride that stuff and when things open up or in the desert the X-Light gear box doesn't cut it, the 350 gear box is more of an all rounder 1st is way too short and almost useless, but 2nd 3 rd 4th are great in single and then when it opens up 1st is still useless but the other 5 gears are great, with stock gearing I reckon the 350 will do 145 kph pinned in 6th, which will be acceptable for the desert, and perfect for more open type of riding.
