    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Tubeless Tires with a Tube on a Tube-Type Rim

I've checked all the results that come up on SEARCH as well Google searches and cannot find anything resembling a definitive response to this question: Can one run a tubeless type tire, with a tube installed on a tube type rim. Example: Pirelli Scorpion MT Tires on standard Excel TE510 wheels.

My reason is I plan to have a spare set of rims fitted with the tires referenced above in appropriate 18 & 21 inch sizes for use in gravel road/ asphalt backroad commuting duties. Not interested in a Motard setup as I do not wish to deal with frequent changes of sprockets/rotors/calipers.

All the questions I find tend to deal with running a tubeless tire on a tube rim, modified to do such without a tube. That is not my question.

Anyone have experience with my specific plan ?
 
T'wer my thought. I think I'll be OK. Just found this on Pirelli's website:

Tubeless Tires
Tubeless tires require a special bead seat, because the beads have to form an airtight seal on the rim. Net all cast wheels, aluminum or magnesium, are suitable for tubeless tire fitment. Do not mount tires without tubes, unless the wheel manufacturer recommends it. If a tube is inserted, it is then possible to fit a tubeless tire to a tubetype rim.

yes. did with the MT gatorback's, pliot powers and others on motards.

may want to watch it on some at first if you go with low pressures. some radials/TL tires have aggressive inner carcasses and are not smooth. same generates heat.

if the inner side of the tire is butt-smooth like a tube type no worries at all at standard street pressures.
 
I do and have been for years as well. Even did 10+ races this season on a trials tire with a tube.

Kelly may recall that some people even try to replace a tube with grass.:lol::lol::lol:
