• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Man Thumpertalk is slow these days. Was just at Trailtech and Geoff the owner was talking about how he does not go there any more since the "upgrade" as he can't stand to look at it. Even the NW section seems way less used than before. Wonder if overall volume has dropped as much as it seems. Good lesson of what not to do. I think the hard to read and 60% of the page being ads has turned people off. Your thoughts?

BTW i am in no way trashing that site nor looking to just a simple observation.

I have also noticed the slowdown there. I used to check in there several times a day, but now regularly go a few days without visiting TT.

It's not just S l o w it's confusing. Heck it took me three tries to get in and ream a PM LOL. I will admit I am not a computer friendly myself.

I used to frequent a variety of guitar forums back in the late '90's and early 2000's when my oldest son was playing in bands. Without fail, the guitar forums that became "for profit" imploded as they became too big and impossible to manage. I've seen countless attempts to salvage these forums by "improving" the sites... to no avail. Once the owners became drunk on ad revenues and classified fees, the sites usually spiraled down the shitter at light speed. As the profits took over, the sites become Nazi-Moderated to ensure political correctness... to ensure continued ad revenues... it's a vicious web.

TT... good riddance. I haven't gleaned any useful info there in months. 99% of the time, I find what I'm looking for here. When I go over there, I find the same or similar posts, usually cut and pasted from here. Frequently, I find posts referring people to Cafe Husky for REAL info. On the rare occassion I DO post over there, my posts are usually answered by 12 year olds posing as 16 year olds trying to sound like 35 year olds. Pathetic.

I played in a band in Portland in the 80's. Used to use this site a lot

www.harmonycentral.com

have not been there in many years. Your post made me want to look at it. Totally different. Interesting.

TT is no longer user friendly. It's just not enjoyable to navigate around the site anymore. Many of the regulars in the Southwest section have "disappeared" from the site all together.

 Harmonycentral is the TT of guitar forums. I'm genuinely surprized it's still in existence. The Fender Discussion Panel was another one I used to visit. It's still around today, but only because the Fender company decided to prop it up with corporate money... which made the FDP founder (Chris Greene) a ton of money... talk about NAZI-Moderated... the FDP banned me once for saying Les Paul was a better guitarist than Eric Clapton. No $hit!

Its still a valuable source of info, especially if you have more than one brand of bike. However I find the adds an abomination and distracting. It definately looks like a lot less posts an a day by day perspective. I spend less time on it as a consequence.

The NW section is not nearly as hopping as it used to be.

I will not post my pictures there any more because they take them and host copies on their servers. I want to keep my pictures on my host. I could post links but that just is not the same.

Later,

I agree with a lot of this and ghte hit the nail on the head more than one brand owner here. Still a good place to get rides together because of the area separation, I know you guys by user name but we are so spread out we will only ride together if another Husky get-to-gather happens. TT has lost others as well and a new place has been founded.

I now go to TT once or twice a week, rather than daily, like I used to.

I keep hoping I'll go and the layout will be back to the old setup, or at least improved. Hasn't happened...

Every forum has its own 'vibe'. I would like to think cafe husky is a nice place to hang out, while being a bit different than other sites.

Yes, at least 1 new site has come from the ashes of the most recent events, and I would postulate that forum more closely resembles a typical forum than cafe husky does.

There is a wide variety of people on TT for sure.

Any objections to putting up a 'Other Bikes' forum on cafe husky for those that want the vibe of cafe husky, and lack a similar place on the internet to interact? There may be a need based on the addition traffic that is viewing the forum as of late.

I'm quite interested in what you think.

Dean,
Nice idea, but there are way to many "Other Bikes" that we all own. I like the Cafe just the way it is. IMO We can always ask questions about help with other bikes and get answers in the general forum.
Lets see what unfolds.

new layout is horrible, rarely go there now. maybe too big? CH is the place I go to for most info.

I don’t know, I think I just like hanging around you folks better… :busted:

Not sure if coffee sprinkled some of his gypsy magic tears over this little site but the other place kinda lost its luster which is a shame in a way cause I used to think it was the shmit

It just seems like it could have been handled differently as far as the unfriendliness of the layout

:excuseme:

I STRONGLY object! This is the perfect place for Husky fans (only). If this place becomes as dilluted as TT... I'll get my Husky info via cell phone.

As you know, I have a ton of other bikes (most of them being green:busted:), so I certainly wouldn't object to an other bikes forum. I'm sure that there are lots of us here, who while loving our Huskys also have other bikes we enjoy.

As for Thumpertalk, I just looked at it a couple of weeks ago and found it to be sort of hard to navigate, and just sort of weird overall.

Only if you name it “lesser brands” ....“infidels” will work too…
:lol: --> :thinking:

I rather you make a whole new “cafeKawzukindatm” for them to play in and leave this little sand box for us
Just like Mr. Palmer said; it’s easy enough to ask those questions in the general section if necessary

Point being... there's already PLENTY of places to hang out if you like JAP bikes and KTM's. NO NEED to expand this place to dillute the Husky-only info available here. NO NEED.

At least someone gets it.

I do not understand some of the negativity, I am not suggesting that the forum change, at all. I *really* do think we are different, in a good way, from other forums.

This is a High Class forum, or at least that is the goal, if there are other like minded nice people seeking refuge, I think they should be participate and exchange ideas. Places like cafe husky are not that easy to find, and it would bother me greatly to turn good people away, and that would certainly not be high class on my part.

I would like to think by now you should have a clear idea that I really want to keep this a nice place. There really are good people that ride other brands.

In any event, I won't put up a 'other bikes' forum at this time. I did however put up a notice for guest to read to let them know what this forum is all about - which should have been put up a long time ago  In addition, I've said we also talk about other brands.

edit: Here is what the people not logged in will see:
Hi! You are viewing Cafe Husky as a guest, this site is all about Husqvarna motorcycles but other bikes are also discussed. Please feel free to join up if you like. We think it is a nice place, you might think so too. :)
