  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Transmission exchange for my 73 WR/CR 250

Hello, Can anyone here tell me if the transmission from a 73 RT250 will be the same as the 73 CR250 I have now.
Found one on ebay from a 73 RT and the lister thinks it (might) fit my 73 CR.
If it does fit but would change my gearing, what would the change be?
Thanks

I am far from an expert but an educated guess is better than no answer at all.
From what I have experienced so far anytransmission 250cc and bigger through 1971-1976 will interchange as long as you have a matching clutch, WR ran a big clutch CR ran a smaller style.
An RT is an enduro bike similar to the WR, both have Wide Ratio gearing. With the RT I would expect the final gear to be really wide for highway use or the entire gear set is even wider than a WR. Going from a Close Ratio to a Wide Ratio will be a bit of a learning curve. Can be fixed with gearing the front and or rear to get the desired result.

As for me, id pass. I waited looking on Ebay for a while to pick up a 76wr 250 Trans with a splined output shaft so I can run easy to find and CHEAP modern style sprockets that are made up to 1994.

What's wrong with your Trans? I have a 73 cr250 Trans from an old project. The output shaft is ruined from the tapored sprocket rust welding itself to the shaft and was cut off. Maybe I can help get yours fixed.
