    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hi all,

I will be picking up a TX 300 as soon as it arrives at the dealer. I have been looking at the owners manual online and have some questions about the gear oil suggested.
The manual suggests Bel Ray 10/40 mineral oil. Mineral oil?? The KTM manual suggests a Motorex full synthetic.
Questions are, why would one manual suggest mineral, the other full synthetic when they use the same tranny?
Which should I use? Just stay with what the manual says?
what is the change interval for mineral oil?

oil thread WARNING WARNING DANGER DANGER. use what the manual says to maintain factory specifications/sponsorship.......or use another moto specific gearbox oil of your own choice...or use some cheap wlamart off the shelf oil......you will hear all these suggestions.



I personally stick with the highest end moto specific stuff from Maxima MTL XL (local San Diego company) but any of the top tier brands are great (BelRay, Motorex,Motul etc etc) and you support the sport by using the moto brands.

ya, I know another oil thread. however, don’t want to get into a debate about oils.
i am more specifically interested in why one manual says synthetic and the other says mineral.
 
Marketting is pretty powerful

TO OP, any good brand oil will be fine as you noted KTM say something else and its the same motor

stick with a good brand and Syn is better than mineral, alltho with a 2 stroke box a good mineral will still work fine, i dont race and swap out around 15hrs use
 
Its personal choice, yes it can be debated for ever. Ive also used rotella T and motul gearbox, that stuff smells so good i keep it In container on the shelf to smell it. When i brought my Husk home i opened gas tank, red. I opened radiator cap, red. So, it only makes sense i try and match it all up, i sleep good at night now.

What do you use,mineral? Whats most affordible?
Helo gear box have wet clutch though?
 
I wonder what oil this one uses?

If you want it all to be red, then use Honda Proline transmission oil. I like the red color because it's easy to see when it's starting to get dirty.:banana:

We use it because its been proven best for the highly loaded gear train, it sticks and does not break down under load. No clutches but transmission oils primary use is for gearsets, any lube works for clutch pack lube.

Ive seen it in honda shop but never used it, i will look into it ty. I goof around a little
