  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Trail Ready TE 310

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have had my bike for a little over a year now and I have to say I am really happy with it. Its a 2012 TE310 and has been great. I did have some issues with the starter/flywheel at around 10hrs, but I didn't panic, and the dealer treated be great, and the bike now has 76hrs on it and runs like a top. It took some experimenting to get the ideal sprocket set up. I have tried everything from 13/40, 13/46, 13/50, and I have settled for 13/48 for the best compromise for being able to get me to the trails, and being ok in the tight stuff. Don't get me wrong I would rather have a 13/52 in the tight stuff, but like with most things there is always compromise. I dropped down 10 cc's in fork oil a have went down to a 2.5 wt. fork oil, this freed them up a bit and made them better in the hack. The rear is great but will need a rebuild this winter. Valves were adjusted at 10 ish hours, and have been rock solid since. Here are some of the mods I have done and feel have worked out really well. I have added some 7602 racing radiator guards, and the oil filter cover armor. When I installed the rad guards I fabed up a plate that allowed me to mount the horn in a less conspicuous, and lower COG area next to the radiator.

I have ended up balancing the front wheel, and running two rimlocks on the rear with a Perrelli Trails tire, the great thing about this combo is it really gives you a little taller gear ratio on the road because of the tall profile of the tire, but off road at 6-8 PSI it seems to be about the same as my usual 404/MX51 rear tire, and the traction is amazing. It doesnt turn the same so it takes a little getting used to but so far I really like itgIMG_9126.JPG

Anyway I really like mine and it has been a reliable fun bike to ride!

I have the same machine. In your photos, I do not see the front or rear turn signals. Have you modified them? I am interested in getting mine off the big stalks and mounted closer in so that they do not get ripped off in the bush.

Thanks!

Hi,
I do have turn signals but not the stock models. I have some Sicass racing flush mounts on the rear, and some Tusk mini-LED models up front. Then I installed the Tusk LED resistor and it all works really well, and it is also well out of the way. I ended up breaking one of the stock ones off so I just went ahead and replaced them all. Thanks for the note

looks like CO, not NE?

thanks

It does doesn't it! Actually it is in North Western NE, I usually ride in the Black Hills but I was avoiding that general area this weekend! Too much craziness up there for me, it is a sea of bikes heading south the last three days.

I bet! the past few weeks we have seen droves of Harleys on I-70 headed for Sturgis. we were thinking of a last minute camping trip to the Black Hills, but abandoned the idea because of the likely crowds.

That is amazing. I had no idea that NE had that kind of alpine-looking terrain. Very beautiful. I will add it to our list of places to visit in the midwest.

Nice 310! I have been in the black hills for the last 10 days and the trails have been great. Fortunately you can't ride a Harley on trails so they have all been empty for my Husky.

Let me know if you ever get up that way, we go up there quite often, it is great riding, and little to no crowds! I am always looking for someone to ride with.

Nice, I was really close to heading up there, and then I decided to ride a little closer to home. Did you hit any of that new single track east of Pactola lake? There are some really fun trails over there and lot of it is brand new this year.

We are heading up there at the end of this month, I cant wait to get back!

I most certainly will. we are still fairly new to the midwest and working out where to go for drivable getaways. Crawford would be a full day, but doable.

Thanks.

Actually, I wonder whether there is enough interest to do some brainstorming for a Midwest CH gathering? Seems like the east and west coasters have got this pretty well worked out, but nothing for the many central folks. If the interest were there, then we might be able to do something in 2014. Might warrant a new thread, but since a few central folks have been active on this one, I figured that I would float it here first.

Thoughts?

We have not hit any single track yet. It has been really wet so trying to stay out of the mud. Will probably hit some in the next few days if it stops raining.

I think that would be great! I am always looking for an excuse to ride!

Thanks again Dratharr for your helpful suggestions on modifying the TE 310 fender and lights. I am attaching a collage of the final product. I used the same flush mount Sicass LED rear signals. I also decided to install the Sicass handguards with integrated LED front turn signals. There was some tweaking involved, but not too bad. It was necessary to also order their flasher to replace the stock unit when running LEDs front and rear. I was able to get the wires tucked neatly away between the rear fender and what remains of the under-fender. All-in-all I am pretty pleased. Hopefully it holds up well.

Your bike looks great! I really like those hand guards with the integrated turn signals. It should hold up really well, I have had mine on for over a year at almost 90hrs on the bike. I have 6 days of riding planned for next week so I am biting at the bit to get the bike out and stretch its legs a little.
I see you have an Oset, if you dont mind me asking how do you like it? I was thinking about picking one up for me daughter, but after looking at them I was thinking I would really like one too!

We love our Oset! I have an 11 year old daughter and 13 year old son and we built a nice little mini-enduro course on our 1 acre. That is what is cool about the bike; it can be ridden anytime and most anywhere because it is silent. I am around 175lbs and over 6ft tal, but can still have fun practicing trials riding with it. the amount of torque is surprising for the size of the motor and you can adjust the power just by turning a small potentiometer. We get about 2hrs with the power set below max and probably about 60mins at max. For these reasons it is a much better bike for playing around the yard then riding trails. It gets the kids used ri standinging, and because it only weighs around 65lbs, they can rasily pick it up when they fall. Because there are no liquids, you can just fold down the car seats and pop it in as needed. They can ride when they wish without disturbing anyone and do mot have to wait around until I can take them somewhere. There is also no hot pipe to get burned on. If the bnatty dirations ever get sorted out, I can imagine that there will be many more options emering on e market. I know that GasGas alreay has an adult sized electric trials bike out there. It is not cheap at around 2k, but in our case was a good choice.

Best,

I would be in for a Midwest CH get together. I am in northern Illinois and have to drive a full day to get to anything decent.

well, then that makes at least 3 of us! I will start a thread in the get together area and see who turns up with good ideas for where and when.
