  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

tire/sprocket change help?

I'm looking to enlist someone in st louis who would want to help me change my rear sprocket in the near future or if thats too unreasonable than someone to post a good how to video/picture write-up. Maybe there is one on here? I have never done anything like this before but need to swap it for the type of riding i'll be doing and would just like someone who knows what they're doing or a reference besides the owners manual.
[edit] well i watched a video seems pretty straightforward
Thanks everyone.

As you have found, you'll find a video for most things on the net. If you are totally new to bike mechanics you may want to double check everything you do as mistakes can be costly and bad for your health!
Check all nuts and bolts preferably with a torque wrench, easy to be too lose or too tight.
When you put the rear wheel back in don't over tighten the chain, better too lose than too tight.
Use thread lock on the sprocket bolts, prone to coming lose.
There are many, many other things to consider and I could go on all day, if you are unsure then ask on here, someone will always help.

Thanks the wheel removal seems fairly straight forward, its more the chain tension im worried about getting right. Also does anyone know how many links ill need to take out when going from a 50t to a 40 on the rear?

You're going down 10 teeth so 10 links down on the chain. Bear in mind 40 tooth rear sprocket will make it pretty useless off road.

See most of the stuff is just dirt/gravel whatever. I am a beginner(in off road) so I wont be doing any real technical or difficult trails. And I bought the bike and it came with a spare rear wheel that had its own sprocket, disc and a much more offroad suited tire
