  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Time for an oil change but.......

B-Turbo

Husqvarna
A Class
So with my 09 smr 510 im goin to attempt my first oil change.

I want to order oil and a filter but I am uncertain of which brand/s to go with.

I have searched some and just keep seeing little pieces of info.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Lots of good ones. For paper there is K&N or HiFlo. You may want to spend a bit more upfront and get a stainless steel mesh one. Cam.

Yep K&N or HiFlo are good
Oil is a viscous topic on these pages and we all have our own views and preferences.
All I would suggest is if you are using the bike in competition and or high speed work then a fully synthetic oil is probably best. If its general use I am happy with a semi syn such as Motul 5100. Also Motorex, Bel Ray plus many other will fill the bill. It is more a case of regularity of changing the oil more than the price/special addatives and or full syn/v's semi syn.
For a single lung bike I feel regular changing is a great outcome in eliminating wear. For insatance on my Ducati the oil changes in the handbook are noow 12,000 Kms. I do it every 6,000 kms. I do my husky every Third/fourth ride which is circa 300-400 kms and change the oil filter every second oil change. Clearly you can extend this, a lot of guys go 500 miles. For me I would rather increase the frequency for piece of mind-hate mechanicals in the bush.

OOOOOOOOOOOOK! that gives me a good start!! thanks guys. I started to look around but where would be a good site to get this stuff? i checked some sponsers but i didnt find any of that? :excuseme:

hmmmm lol ............well time to ride! :D

As for Oil - I use Rotella Synthetic 5w40 - 1 gallon from Walmart $21 and change... but I'm riding a TE250 so not sure how it may differ. Should be fine with Synthetic Oil and changing it every couple to a few rides

Using the same on my TE511

great thanks guys! gotta get stuff this weekend. ran it hard last night so gotta change it now for sure lol :p

Motorex Crosspower 10W/50 or 60 is very stable and lasts well atleast on te250 which ofcourse has very small oil capacity and high heat output so it should be quite durable on your bike too.

anyone use royal purple? saw it today in a store. they had 0w40, 10w40, 20w50 ....ik people who drag cars and race use it but anyone use it on these bikes?

I had read an independent lab analysis over on a truck forum recently that tested all different aspects of at least 15 different oil manufacturers. Red line and royal purple performed the worst. Especially on viscosity and start up. Amsoil performed the best in every test. I am not trying to start a oil thread war. I have been a red line fan since I had done some plumbing work at there factory in Benicia years back. Local guys, economy and such. I was blown away when I read the charts and saw that royal purple performed worse than any other oil, even penzoil. Mobil 1 was second to amsoil. All the others faired well except for the two mentioned.
Just my .02$

So I did the oil change! Piece of cake/pie/ whatever dessert u like :p .

Used Rotella T6 5w/40. I was wondering though.....in the manual it says 10w/60. Any reason why they would use this??

Those numbers are meaningless until tied to a specific brand. 10W used to be the lightest weight made in the multigrades and the 60 is based upon flow characteristics of mineral oil at high temperatures. Synthetic is completely different and retains much more of its flow/thickness at higher temperatures, while providing better protection both cold and hot.

Holy cow some of you guys must really like changing your oil.

I use Amsoil 10w40 motorcycle oil in all my water cooled bikes (their 20w50 in my air cooled bikes), and I change it when I think of it. I've been doing this for almost 45,000 miles on my SM610.

My buddy is the same way but worse with everything. Always shocks me that anything works. Things like our ruger 10/22's. I keep mine clean as a whistle, he's never cleaned his in the 5 + years we've owned them(crazy sale at big 5 one day, 3 of us bought 1 each), my crf100, clean and everything works, I don't know how he rides his but he does!

lol its amazing how these machines work...... unbelievable how much some of them can take. I dont get how some people need to do it more then others either but im not taking chances with this bike. spent too much on it to dick around lol :p
