  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Thread Insert Stuck In Fuel Tank

Hey Folks,

One of the threaded fuel tank inserts is stuck on my 09 TE 250. It's one that holds the plastic on the side of the fuel tank. The insert just spins around with the bolt so I can't get the bolt out.:banghead: Any Sugguestions?

Beyond that, my TE 250 is a fantastic offroad bike, having balance, power, and a suspension that eats up the Pennsylvania rocks that I bounce over.

Call your dealer and get a warranty on it before its 2 years are up! Seriously!!

In the meantime can you bend the plastic panel so you can wedge a sharp screwdriver down the side of the insert whilst you turn the bolt?
They need copperslip from new and not overtightening but they are inferior inserts, all they need is an air flaw in the plastic beside them and they break free.
They have done this for years!
Good luck.

Had that happen back on my 08 TE. I removed all the tank bolts and put never seize on them. Doesn't matter now with the side panels glued to the IMS tank...:D

Here is what I did. Sneak behind the plastic and get something to put pressure on the back side of bolt. Find you a drill bit the same size as your threads. Center punch the bolt head and drill through center of the bolt. When you get to the bottom of of the bolt head. It falls off or you can pry it off. Take your shroud off. With a razor knife start trimming carefully to view the sides of the top of insert. The insert is square. Don't cut further than the edges of the insert or deeper than the top of insert. Next take a thin screw driver/needle nose pliers and pop it out. If you can, take a smaller bit and keep drilling the bolt for use of an easy out. Once the bolt is out get some JB weld and glue it back in. Put new bolt in and use antisieze on them. If by chance you mess the old insert up let me know and I can show you a picture of one that I found at the home improvement stores and can tell you how to install it.
