  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Thinking about Barstow to Vegas on my TE250?

A Class
I have a 2011 TE 250 and was thinking about doing Barstow to Vegas event with it this November. For those out of the area its an annual race ( not really) for two days of hard-core dirt/desert dual sport riding from Palmdale CA to Las Vegas. I know it has been done on 250's in the past but wondering if any out there have dine it recently ( last few years) on a 250. I realize I will have to carry extra fuel. I have the option of taking my GS800 on the " big bike route" which is specific for big adventure bikes. I think it would be more fun to do the more aggressive route with the super light 250. I have taken it on long rides out to the Husky monument so I know what the conditions are. It will just be a lot longer and more challenging..

Thoughts?

That sounds like fun and by November, temperatures will be nice and cool. My gf used to run from Newberry springs to Vegas in order to train for Baja. They used to refuel in Baker. How far do you have to go before you can fill up?

The 250 will be fine. Better choice than the 800. Been there and done that.
I'll be on the 630 riding sweep again this year.
Hope to meet you anywhere but on the trail.

Thanks.. Nice bike one the 630. Hope I can see it in Vegas lol.( not sweep) So far I figure I can go just over 100 miles on my stock tank in fairly aggressive dirt riding. Do you think I need to carry a rotopax with more?

100 miles is good. Although my 100 mile range went down to 85 in the sand last year.
I like to carry a couple MSR bottles for good luck.

I'm planing on running my 310 with a few buddies, looks like an awesome event, a 510 would be better for it but a moded 250/310 should be fine

Leaving the '10 te450 in the garage and riding the '69 Honda Trail 90 this year ;) Maybe we'll make it, maybe we won't... BUT it will be damn fun trying!!!

I was thinking of doing it too. The fuel sitch is kinda the same for me on a 449. Just can't pull the trigger on the Nomad until I invest in some other things like the 2x4 they call a seat.

Do they still have the tire fire at the start, or am I just showing my age? :o

It's no longer a race. No tires on fire.
The start is actually now in Palmdale if you're planning on riding both days.

I took my TE 310 on the Paris to Dacre Rally which was 480 miles in 16+ hours of riding for my team. I changed my gearing and ran pretty much stock and the bike performed admirably! What are your concerns?

The 250 will make that no problem. My son rides a TE 250 and we have done a few long rides, we went Barstow to Baker to Laughlin and back (400+ miles). the TE 449's seat will numb your butt after 3 hours, the TE was not so bad (maybe our age difference?). I say go for it!

I would plan to change oil, maybe use a filter skin on the air filter, if riding all of it, those are some long gruelling dusty days. Totally awsome experience!

Thanks for the reply's. Concerns are mostly fuel and whether I am up to it. I'm 52 years young and while I still challenge myself from time to time... two days straight in the desert on a 250 might be a little much. I don't want to modify the fuel tank just for this so I will add another msf can to my arsenal and that should get me thru.. Hope to see some of you out there in the upright position:cheers:
