• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The weight is in. Gasser on one slimfast per week....

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Reliable source..... 2 stroke. I believe 300's not 250's. 2014 Gas Gas electric start dry weight no acc or fuel 250 pounds. 2015 Gas Gas electric start no fuel or acc 245 pounds. believe part of the weight savings in the electric start. 245 shows progress (bikes weighed on the same scale) as my 12 gasser with no e start was 245****************************************! So that should put the non estart version down to around 235 which was the same as a Husqvarna Italian wr 250 or and 2011 prior Gasser.. Progress. If this new (KTM)Husqvarna does not work this may give me yet another option. I would think a guy could change the big silencer and ditch at least a pound. There frame is cool looking but must be on the porkly side.. Still TM or KTM or new school Husky 20 pounds or so lighter....Reality check Gas Gas the brakes are not strong enough..... Your fork is awesome and from a great place...... Buy your brakes from there to......Any cheap ways for these bikes to lose weight???

All bikes are a tradeoff. The GG might be slightly heavy but had a good motor and some very good aspects. Your TM was light but the frame to rigid. Your new husky/KTM would have been twitchy and the forks might suck but you threw money at those up front. I'm guessing you would find the Beta to soft and trail bike like. Maybe the new husky will work for you but the point I am making is there are concessions to be made on any bike. Find one thats close and massage it as close to your ideal as you can.

I'm excited for gas gas as well! But in making a competitive bike you must keep some things similar to your competition and weight to me is very important. Not to take away from the bike. The engine is good even with the choked off subframe. The front fork is great. Handling to me was adequate however adversely affected by the weight of the bike. I hear the new huskys are twitchy but was told a steering dampner will take care if that. Not dishing the gasser. The reason they didn't sell that well was mostly related to late release along with bad reviews related to weight. I'm almost positive I'll ride one again...I like em....Tm rigid but that is with stock MX suspension and solid mounted handlebar. In all seriousness I won't lie the chassis felt planted and stable and able to push hard.something I never really felt with the 2012 gasser. All related to weight.....

I have ridden a 2014 GG 300 non E start. They are super narrow and the power was unbelievable. Didn't notice the weight but doubt I would anyway coming off my 11. GG is gearing up to be a USA force. Changing there parts distribution, advertising the bikes and lowering MSRP. I think a 2015 300E-Start is 7999.00 Not to be boosting GG I think it is awesome all the different bikes becoming available in the US. I want to ride a 2015 Sherco, TM, Beta, Husky and GG before I chose my next bike.

Having choices is the coolest part. Never could care less about GG but now Bills carries them so I like them lol. Got to say the Sherco is my favorite aside from Husky. I like how the map switch controls not only ignition but the powervalve too. Really want to ride one (or any 2 stroke for that matter). For now I'm still a 4 stroke guy. Have never been able to get a tc449 out of my head either :)

When they can get a 250/300 2T enduro down to under 225 let me know. My 84IT 200 with lights and tools is less than that wet. Can't understand how as technology goes forward with bike design, they somehow get heavier. 245-250lbs. for a modern 2 stroke is just unacceptable. My TE 449 is that heavy!

its just technology L/C, linkages E start cartage forks its cool and all but it adds weight  strike another win for older bikes i think a bike that didnt have all that would sell quite well look at how good we can make some of the old bikes like Kellys 83 500XC and dozens more on this forum:thumbsup:

True dat. Takes a manly man to start a big bore Swede machine on the left.

I really was hesitant to buy my TE because it was missing the kicker. I remember looking at it the first time and noticing nothing on the right, so I thought "Oh cool, they kept it on the left!" Walked around and went "What the hell?" loud enough to attract a salesman.

probably not much more than my 88. a few pounds for the sparky, rear frame loop, bigger fender, and lights. mine has a straight core silencer.

yes, yes, and i have a hella stand alone led tested...havent found a solution i like yet for the round swede lights.
88 was last of the swedes. mostly left over 87 models

No there simply in my opinion is no excuse for a modern two stroke two weigh what a Gas Gas does. I like the bike for sure! Durability is great, styling is nice etc... I think for a B or C rider great bike. The cool frame must be the pig in a poke to the bike as most everything else looks standard fare. Also heard the swingarm is heavy as well. I know when your moving you don't feel the 20 pounds, but let me tell you after riding the Gasser and then my TM 250 there is no comparison. At least 2012 to 2012 the TM handles far better stock for stock. And I think most of it is related to weight. The gasser feels good in the tight stuff but wallows and will near kill you in the fast stuff.. They are working on it. Just saying a 15 to a 14. 250 to 245 with e-start so they are working on it. My 12 without estart was 245!!! So they are getting there!! While at Halls I took a good long close look at both the Gas Gas and the Husqvarna. I felt the Husky outshined the Gasser for a few reasons. The colors. The IPD graphics (no decals) The simple designed subframe. Clutchpull unbelievably light (lighter then a Husky 125) light throttle pull, 20 pounds lighter weight, The adjustable powervalve... Both very good bikes..... And I am happy to see Gas Gas revved up****************************************

I had a GG 200 motor, complete but in need of a total rebuild and a few replacement parts. I sold it for parts and just packed and weighed it. It was zip tied with a few heavy ties in a plastic milk crate, then dropped in a close fitting box with foam peanuts. So, not a lot of weight in packing, few lbs tops. On the shipping scale at work it weighed 61.7 lbs.

I pretty much agree with GMP. Quality control needs improvement and I have seen many lost gas tank bolts on the first ride. <y 12 lost it and then it was stripped. Then went to remove the plastic subframe bolts and they were stripped right from the factory. I like them and have a soft spot and remember back in 97 I had one of the only Gassers in Minnesota. A silky smooth pinkish 250 with a horn, blinkers and a counterbalance. What I do remember was the transmission exploding at and estimated 40 hours and trading it in broken to halls for a Husqvarna.........lol PS THE ONLY TRANSMISSION FALIURE IVE EVR HAD..........(05 and up Gassers changed)
