• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The good OLD days.

Really brings back the memories, thanks for sharing. I have seen some of Dougs stuff before. Quite a guy.
What would you give to have just one of those days back?

I found this guys videos that he had transferred from super 8 film. I posted it at SDAR, but thought somebody over here might get a kick out of these really old races. They brought back a lot of great memories for me because of the time line and also because the races were local. So here is the link:

Are those your vids? It almost looks like you could have been in the first one.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing. :)

Well, let's hear about this bike.
This bike was a 1973 DKW RT159 Super(AKA The Little Wonder). It sported a gigantic chrome gas tank with a rootbeer colored area across the top. The exhaust was chrome, so were the fenders, wheels and bars. I don't remember what the dry weight was supposed to be, probably scary plenty. It seemed to have almost more chrome than a Harley Davidson. It also sported a 125 cc Sachs engine that had a six speed tranny (with about seven neutrals:lol:) and a 26 mm Bing carb. Boge shocks adorned each end of the machine, and the front ones which were 16 inches long, rode on a swingarm member supported by needle bearings. This leading link arrangement caused the front end to extend rather than collapse under breaking pressure. Made for some interesting braking techniques when entering a corner that had stutter bumps. There was a steering damper too...chrome of course. I rode the machine for a couple of years in motocross. During that time, it lost it's big tank for a little fiberglass one (designed to fit a Husqvarna), got a Torque down pipe, plastic fenders (remember Preston Petty), DID rims and different handlebars. Later, all the stock stuff (except the rims) went back on it and I added lights, mirror and street licensing. A few years later, I sold it, but I wish I hadn't....along with the 125 Maico, the 360 Bultaco Frontera and just more recently the KDX200 that I kept for the last 21 years.

The owner of those videos is a gentleman out of Arizona by the name of Doug Klassen. He used to live in San Diego county as a teenager and young man and started racing probably a few years before I did. He and I have chatted via a forum that we both belong to for District 38 Offroad Racing. That is where I found the links to his Youtube videos. Most of the videos were shot just before I was competing and riding in general. I was probably still dreaming about owning horsies.

In the DKW photo, I can't tell if I'm sticking out my tongue or my lower lip.
