    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TE630 Rear Tire Replacement

That's gotta be it. I'm either hard on the throttle or hard on the brakes. Roost is my middle name. :banana:

That stock karoo would just spin like a mofo.

Here's a pic of the stock karoo at 750 miles, comparing to the new T63. It had a bit more life left but I had an event or something and wanted a fresh tire.
That T-63 is getting to almost look like this karoo now, with about a thousand miles, 50/50 on off, 25-28 on road and 18 off.

My Karoo was basically a slick at 2,400 miles. Almost no center lug height at all. Most would have probably retired it at ~1,500 miles. That tire was closer to 90/10 street/dirt use also. I ride conservatively on the street, no wheelies, no hard accel or braking if it can be avoided. Off pavement though a different story. I love hitting the throttle to get the rear end sliding out of turns, etc. No reservations when it comes to twisting the throttle and hard brake sliding. I do ride more sand and mud than rocks though, that makes a difference also.

BTW, Bimmer refers to cars. Beemers are motorcycles. And remember, BMW made motorcycles BEFORE they made cars.

TKCs are often run on KTM 990s, VStroms and other large ADV bikes as they are one of the few knobbyish tires that fit them.

On my F800GS, I get 2500-3k out of a rear TKC80. 6k if I run it down to zero knobby height. I get 6-8k out of the front. I've never tried a TKC on a 610, but I'd expect it would last longer due to the weight difference. YMMV...

Bear in mind the knob height is half what a typical knobby has, so you would wear them down more than a normal knobby.
 
Got another T63, so here's the new one and old one with a thousand miles on it. Knob height is exactly half of the new one (1/2") so it probly would go 1500 before scrapping it. But I wanted the new one on there for the big DV ride.

Same here but riding local only so getting the last few miles out of mine. Currently at 2,556 miles in photo but on borrowed time now. I was riding deep sand and mud yesterday and even being this bald was still manageable after airing it down appropriately. This is the last one of the three T63's I bought last Black Friday. Looking for another sale now to stock up. Current best is BikeBandit, $57.05 total price to my door. I might also try a Shinko 244 in size 5.10-18, currently on sale for $44.70 at BB. Just not sure if I want to give up the high speed rating and wet road handling of the T63.

Chris if you're planning to throw away that tire don't. I would gladly take it off your hands. For me it's worth the install hassle to get 500-1,000 more miles from it. You could take it with you to DV and hand it off to Ken. I can get it from him when he returns.

I'll probably put the old one back on after the trip for around-here riding. It's basically a free tire now so I'll go ahead and get the rest of the life out of it.
MCSS has raised the price on them, they're all of $68 now. :D
From BB i have to pay sales tax and shipping so it ends up costing more from them.

Glad to hear that. Tires are relatively quick and easy to change so why not get full use out of it. Helps our landfills also. Have a great time in DV!

Also one other big factor in my long rear tire life is when riding on the road I very seldom ever use my rear brake.

I can change them pretty fast, about 5 minutes a side, but this time I couldn't get the darn thing to balance to save my life, and dinked around with it for about 2 hours. It needed about an ounce and a half and I didn't want to put that much more weight on the outside. So I ended up taking it off again and removing about an ounce from the inside that offsets the rimlock, kept rotating the tire around the rim 'till it was really close. By the time I got the tube in and all mounted up and full of air it still need 3/4oz to balance.
I do like them balanced though. You dont get that wallowing bounce at 70 on the hiway. Never bothered with the dirtbikes we never ran them on the road. :D
 
Any one run the Michelin AC10? The biggest size for 18" rim is 120/90... I'm going to give them a try. For $69 shipped to my door, it's worth a shot. If I get 1200 miles or so I'm happy. Looks like a beefy tire and you can flip them around for longer wear. I would like to hear what you all think about them?? I will post back after I get some rides in on it.

If you're all dirt you'll probly like it pretty well. Seems to me some of the old husky dirtbikes and some KTM exc's came with them.
I can't say for sure, but my bet is they are shiite on road, and if you do any road you'll be lucky to get 800-1000 miles.

If you want more reports of riders using them, try the google search for ADV like this: "site:advrider.com ac10" without the quotes.
Did a quick browse here, there are some that think they're okay.
 
My experience with K60's is that they're an excellent tarmac tyre, and just about ok on hard packed tracks and small stones. Useless in mud and sand, but good for ay 50/50 riding if your dirt 50 is fairly easy stuff. I'm surprised about the advice earlier to run a rear at 36psi etc. When I tried that the rear was so twitchy I had to stop and air it down. In the end 25 worked for me (tarmac) and 20 dirt.

You guys might like to know that Mefo and Hedidenau tyres are basically the same - made in the same factory. if you buy Mefo HD tubes, they come in a printed Mefo box but with a Heidenau stamp on the tube itself.

You guys riding desert, take a look at the Mefo stonemaster. I've had one on my triumph tiger 800xc for a few weeks including a race weekend (big bike rally) of fast fire trails with sharp corners. It can take the big torque and near 100 hp of the tiger and whilst there is knob damage it's not bad at all. For Morocco I'll be putting a Stonemaster on the rear and probably a T63 on the front simply because I have some sitting around that I bought from ebay for cheap.
 
I should have my T63 on by the weekend...very much looking forward to trying it out and will post back to this thread in the future to let folks know what mileage I was able to get out of it. Like CJ I'm pretty hard on the throttle so I'll imagine it'll be a one season thing. Out of the stock Karoo I got about 800-900 usable miles (i.e. still being useful off-road) and the rest have been pretty useless (the thing is about as bald as I've taken one down to.) Also adding the 14T sprocket, which I'm looking forward to as well.
 
On the K60, I have heard the same thing as Mike54 has stated, although would like to get an update from Johngil (he ran one for awhile) to see what he thought of it.

I have also heard the stonemaster as well as the tractionator desert HT are both very good offroad but that pavement will shred them mercilessly. :)

While I really like the good manners of the T63 and they are cheap, I'm going to try a Pirelli Scorpion Rally in the 140 size next. I may even take off my new T63 with 400 miles on it and put it on the new (to us) yamaha WR250. Will work fine on it and probably last a lot longer seeing as it's a 230lb 250cc with about 30hp.

There are many reports of the Rally going at least a couple of thousand miles on the big KTM's, 950/990, although one rider had worn his to the core in a thousand miles. Still worth a try on the TE I guess.

BTW, I have about 2K miles on the front scorpion rally and it looks about a third worn and still works just outstanding.
 
I ran a Stonemaster on my tiger - it managed about 1400 miles of mixed tarmac and trail. Then I fitted a new one for a rally (surface was rock and flint) and it lasted exactly 80 miles. I wish I'd taken a picture of it actually. I guess that's what 100 hp and 800 cc will do with fully open throttle exits from corners and hundreds of yards of wheelspin :applause:
