• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE610: Convince me to buy it!

I'm probably not a good resource but in the selfish interest of inflated post counts....

My 610 is still apart (just got suspension back yesterday) so I've been riding my KTM 950 everywhere.

Last weekend I rode west of Woodland Park on some single-track and ATV track trails (Trout Creek Rd - the 717A trail complex).

Universally, people thought I was insane for riding a 950 up (and down) some of the tougher trails.

My buddy and I swapped bikes after about 30 miles. He rides a KTM 300.

Although I really dug how easy it was to ride the front wheel and rail that thing through all kinds of stuff, as soon as I got to a spot to open it up, I was sorely disappointed....no juice in 5th gear.

For me, the Husky 610 is the perfect bike for how I like to ride here in Colorado. I have the lightweight characteristics of a trail bike & the transmission & power for getting around the state on the slab if necessary.

I also have the experts here at CafeHusky to keep me straight with maintenance and modification tips.

I was smitten with the DRZ for a while but the 610's extra power with negligble weight penalty and better componentry sold me.

The closest competitors for me are KTMs and Husabergs.

There are solutions for fuel range.

Hi guys, this is a post from the local husky dealer on one of the local (to me) forums:

2008 Brand new bikes. On blow out sale. These are Black and grey SMR 610's . We have switched over the front and and suspension from the 2008 TE 450's .

Here's the advantages , 50 ml Marozochi forks fully adjustable with the black finish. Way better suspension than the 610 TE ever came with.

SMR 610 headlight , there brighter than a TE 610 light .

I can only assume he meant "front and rear suspension". He is selling them for $CAN7400 which is $US6625. I would have to add 12% taxes for my out-the-door price.

Would you guys do this? My biggest fear would be to one day ride a 'proper' TE610 & find out I like it much better. Or maybe my fears are completely irrational?

OK thats a bit more info than we had to work with earlier. I'm assuming that all the parts swaping is new for new and if that is the case then it should make a good set-up. I would probably go for this kind of arrangement.

50 ml?

I would be a little careful buying something from someone that has trouble describing things. Could be not so good at typing, or something else might be going on.

You really cant just put a 21inch front wheel on a 'tard bike, all kinds of stuff will be wrong. Cable lengths, suspension lengths, steering angle, triple clamps will have to be replaced or spacers adapted, etc. .etc

You can take a motard and simply put 17" dual sport tires. But that doesnt sound like what you are describing. Its got limitations off road, but doable, and its nice and low for shorter folks.

See if the 410 guy will swap forks, triple clamps, wheels, cables, etc. and then you might be close. Make sure the pick-up works on your odometer.

You can also buy forks/triple clamps/wheels on ebay and then have both the original bike and the 'tard. Better re-sale.

Just some ideas for ya.

For a bike ya ride from home, the 610 is hard to beat. But yeah a bike ya ride from the campground to the fishing hole and then to town for worms, i can see the WR250 taking care of business.

I stand corrected on the tank size. Wish i could claim a type-o, but its more like early alzheimers. Good catch. 3.5-3.7 gallons. Not 2.7.

I disagree with you there, I put knobblies on my SM and it works perfectly:

SM

Enduro

The only problem is the front brake caliper bolts, which can be improvised to fit. Click on my name to see my thread for details of said improvisation.
