  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm happy to report that the PCV is indeed what I've been hoping for to cure my flameouts.
Got it dialed in yesterday and the bike runs perfect. Strong idle with no little hiccups and the
power is more immediate, more responsive and more of it. Revs higher too. I'm going up to
Georgetown tomorrow for a day of trail riding in the Sierras. Can't wait to try it off road.

Update: So I'm, again, happy to report that for first time in the year and seven months that I've owned my 511 I had
a day of trail riding without a single stall or flame out. I can chug along on the tight singletrack in 3rd or 2nd without constantly
using the clutch for flame out prevention. This bike is a torque monster even when chugging along in 3rd just twist the throttle
and instantly you're in the meat of the powerband. Also cured the dreaded "dead throttle" issue that many 511/449 owners have
talked about where you gas it and nothing.
So, imo, the PCV was well worth the $295 it cost me. I finally have the bike I dreamed about when I first bought it.

PCV transforms the 449 into what it was originally supposed to be. You can add a secondary map which can be switched on the fly with a lever mounted switch for traction control etc.

I purchased the PCV online from Morepoweracing.com. It's specifically for the TE511's and they were supposed to have preloaded a map
for my bike and I specified in the notes when I ordered it that I had the FMF Powercore4 muffler. I'm not sure what map they loaded on there
but it didn't run good at all. Almost unrideable. I took it to a place here in Sac and luckily the Mechanic had a lot of experience with Power Commanders
and knew how to get them dialed in. I asked him what map he used and he just used the map it came with but adjusted some of the values. He said
is was very lean. I am absolutely amazed at how great it runs now. The flameout issue that I've been dealing with since I bought it is completely cured.
The dead throttle issue that used to randomly occur is cured. The power is super responsive and crisp. I can trail ride a gear too high and take advantage
of the massive torque the 511 puts out without having to always be on the clutch for flameout prevention. I can't tell you how many times I went down
on narrow mountain trails as a direct result from the bike stalling when I needed it to go. It's almost like it knew the worst possible moment to flameout
and did so every time. I kind of learned how to adjust to deal with it but it was very frustrating to say the least. I'm a happy camper now, though.
One thing I'm a little concerned with, Tinken, and I mention this in a different thread, the guy said the TPS Voltage would drop at 0 % throttle and
would slowly climb back at 20% throttle or something to that affect so he had to manually enter some different numbers in there to compensate for the
negative reading at 0 %.... something like that. It's all Greek to me. He said, however, that he had never seen one act like that and was concerned that
the TPS might be going bad. He was curious about this, though, but didn't have another Husky to compare it to so if there are any TE511 owners in Sac
who would like to help out in a little experiment I might be able to get him to tune your FI for free. No promises there but if you have a PCV or JD I'm
sure he would get it dialed. You can PM me or take it in to Capital Yamaha and mention me TPS/FI thing to the mechanic.

Sounds like a faulty ground issue. I will look into it when I get closer to completion of my other projects. Nick used a Powercommander 5 on his txc511 when he raced for TY. I'll see if I can get his maps and give out to CH members. The pc5 replaces the faulty bmw maps on the te/txc/tc's and delivers smoother power configurable to every 250 rpm.

When ordering your PC5 (27-007), specify you want the modified air box loaded. This will load the richer map to the PC5. Or you can download both maps from Dynojet and plug the box into the usb prior to installing it and load both maps. Consider installing the autotune module as well. It will continually modify the map while running and give a dyno-tuned feel. At the same time you can load a custom map into map selection #2 that turns off the auto tune for mpg or traction/hole shot control maps which can be activated on the fly from a lever switch.

I agree totally on the autotune install. After the installation of the map for my TE 250 I rode the bike without the autotune active and wasn't thrilled with the results. Better than stock but not perfect. After activating the autotune I downloaded the new map and there were a few areas that were richer than the original map. The bike runs like a bat out of hell and is constantly re-tuning for the type of riding I'm doing.

For the SMR 449, what's the part number for the PC5 and auto tune? Also anyone got a link for the maps as I could not find it :-\
