  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE511 VS TE449 or stick with a 310

I had to sale my beloved TXC310 due to family medical issues. I really did love that bike and can honestly say I will get another one when the timing permits. I loved the light feel (came off a WR450) the balance and the power delivery. With that being said, I don't want to limit my shopping experience to just the 310. Can somebody give me the differences between the 511 and the 449. I ride single track and desert and like to go quick. Like both technical hill climbs and all out wide open hill climbs. Any preference I should look at? Having the ability to ride on the street is another factor in looking at the bigger bore TE's.

I know this has probably been covered in past posts but I'd be looking for a 2013/2014.

Thanks

nearly identical. I have ridden both back to back. The 511 has a little more power and bottom, the 449 seems to rev just slightly faster. Other than that if you did not know what bike you were on it would be very hard to tell.

Thanks Moto, which would you prefer if you wanted to try desert racing? Both are street legal correct? I honestly think the 310 would do great in the desert here as far as stamina goes but I'm looking at the bigger picture now.

I would hands down pick the 449/511 for dez racing. The only place I like the 250/310 more is tighter trails. Again not a knock on the 250/310, love those bikes but find the 449/511 more versatile if your not doing 100% tight stuff. I love my 511 in the dez. After ZipTy did the suspension the only thing holding this bike back is me.

I like the 511 over the 449. 5.5flbs of torque might not seem like much, but at the top of some gnar sandy rock hill when you lug it to make it to safety, you can thank Husqvarna instead of God. Might be the same thing.
The only 310 I know of that can climb the comp sand hill out here is Ty's full factory 310 (with him on it). The 511's go up and down it all day.

Thanks for the input Gents. When I got home last night I looked up some reviews and I read Chili's from Enduro360.com and boy did he have some reservations.

I read that too. I had already purchased my 511. Bone stock, with the
smog stuff on it, stock EPA fuel map and catylitic converter choked
exhaust, I guess he was somewhat justified. remove the smog canister
(free), remap to at least map 3 ($40), remove catylitic converter (free)
or install FMF exhaust ($260). adjust suspension and install some good
dirt tires. different bike, powerful, exellent handling, and has proven
very durable. A few other mods make it even better, (zip tys breather
mods) PCV & maps from zipty etc. but for little money bike can be
transformed.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking also. I have ready plenty of happy people on this board so it was quite a shock to read Chili's write up. I do agree with him when he said that a seat concepts seat would do wonders also.

The mag reviews hate this bike for the most part and the owners love them. Its a polarizing bike. I go through bikes like burgers and this one has stayed way longer than most and I dont see it leaving. Love this machine and it really seems to grow on you. Liked mine stock, love it modified.

Chilly loved the TC449. With the TE he had it wasn't ever modded and most everyone is frustated with the TE's stock. I'd imagine the mods make them close to a TC (probably still a little under with basic mods). The biggest thing is to read about what needs done. The link is a sticky on top of this section. Good luck, I only spent minutes on a TE but a ton of time on the TC. Love the bikes. I agree with everything Motosportz has already said so no sense in describing the differences between 449 and 310. One thing I'd like to add, if you plan on racing check the classes. The only way I'd ever get the 449 over the 511 is if there was a class I wanted to be in. Why throw away cc's though if there isn't :).

Chilly is a great rider/tester and he gave a very honest review which I appreciated. His test 511 belonged to Malcolm Smith and it didn't have map3. Had it had a powercommander and my Burson map, it would of been a different review. The KTM he refers to in his article is my race bike, and it does not have that snappy Ferrari power the 511 has. The top 3 bikes sitting here at ZipTY are Ty & Jackman's 2014 FE501's and my 511.

Thanks again guys. I also just found the post explaining all the stuff for the 449's and 511's. Just so happens there are one of each for sale at a local dealer. hoping nobody buys them for a couple of months. they even have a 2012 449 brand new.
