  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE511: US stock vs Akrapovic - how much lighter is the Akrapovic?

Anyone know?

Trying to figure out if I need to bite the bullet. I'm adding weight (tank, rear rack, etc) and it'd be nice if I could remove weight at the same time (already got a Shorei battery...)

Looked at the viddy...much sexier looking, but the gas is green! Look again, there's green gas in the tank! And something's on fire ...B-)

Also, that is the aftermarket Akrapovic. The stock euro / aussie akra can is heavier than that. I haven't weighed mine but it's probably somewhere between the two. However, it is quieter as well. I think mine is a nice compromise between being quiet enough as to not draw attention and still providing some power/weight benefits over the laconi (sp?) stock US can w/catalytic.

The exhaust Normann linked to is actually not aftermarket, it comes stock on the TC449. The aftermarket is the Evo One with resonator and carbon tip. The Euro/Aus Acropovic was oem on the US TXC models (map 3 works great with this exhaust). All three of these Akro systems are very quiet compared to the F brand 4.1's which I can only describe as rolling thunder. I've tested all of these exhausts. I took a 4-5hp hit from switching away from the 4.1, but the Acropovic is so much quieter.

I'm happy with my TC449 Euro/Aus Acropovic on my SMR. With the TC airbox it is a borderline pass at it's annual vehicle test in the UK. :)

This is the one I got on ebay (on its way to me now)

Sounds like I made a good choice. I wanted lighter/smaller than stock but still quiet. I often ride in national forests around campgrounds and I want to 'leave no trace' including noise.

I like my Aus supplied Akra slip-on. I know it's not the last word in Dyno figures but it seems to make good mid-range torque, isn't too loud & is well made.

I have the fullrace ti/carbon akra evo system on my SMR449,
It is very light! The header weighs virtually nothing. The can is prob less than half the weight of the large laconi stock can.
Could be made lighter still if it was cut shorter.
I run it with no spark arrester and have no issues with Dba limits on the track, on the street it does get some attention though.
