  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Has any body had success with the JD tuners helping with the stalling I love my bike just trying to work out a bug

yup, I had the JD tuner, it helps but doesn't cure the flame-outs.
The ZipTy ecu reflash is a complete cure for my bike but won't work on all bikes for some reason.
My JD tuner is looking for a new home, pm me if interested.

Touch wood I haven't had a problem with the cough and stall (yet lol). I must admit I was concerned. My biggest problem is the oil getting in the air box.

First set TPS, then get ECU Map set #3 from Zip Ty... or if that doesnt work then go to JD or Power Commander.

Im quite satisfied with the JD solution on my '11 TXC511 but my bike wont take the ECU reflash so I cant tell you how it directly compares. Motosportz Kelly made the switch from JD to ECU reflash and went from satisfied to awestruck.

Check out the 449/511 sticky at the top of the 4 stroke section

Good info here. My bike ran OK stock with powerup map. Added the JD and it was noticeably better and made WAY more top end power. Still would stall in thigh stuff if your not quick on the clutch. Not bad but not great ether. Had ZipTy remap the ECU to the Map3 thingy (tech term) and it has never run as good. All that said I still have the JD hooked up and actually like it. I still run it on the rich side and the bike is FAST. The map3 really made my bike run nice the JD added to what I can do with it / gives me some control.

I talked to zipty today and I think that's the way im heading first I also ordered fmf silencer thanks to everyone for the input everyone.

I designed my own setup initially but the ZipTy one looks killer and works a little better

This is the setup I initially built with a gokart style breather mounted where the evap canister used to be. image.jpg

Are you still using this setup and I assume the filter is there instead of a hose up to the air box and did you hook one hose to the top of the valve cover and the other to the oil drain using the zipty parts?

I now run the Zip Ty model. For the money, my design worked pretty well. Cheap too. I liked the opaque tank so I could see if there was oil in it. The Zip Ty breather elbow and crankcase plug/billet filler plug were necessary for this mod. Otherwise I used a breather filter from an auto parts store, some hoses and fittings and a catch can I bought on ebay.

Did you notice any oil actually getting in the reservoir and did you put more oil in the crankcase because it seems to me like it's a good ideal to keep oil from getting in the airbox but I have to wonder how much oil if any is recirculating through it because without recirculating more oil I don't undersatnd how it helps in cooling or extending the torque limiter life?

I drained the system and cleaned/replaced oil filters. I measured out 1150 cc's of 10W40 and put it in. At high sustained revs, you may see some oil come out of the airbox. Tinken(Mike i think his name is) and Zip Ty Davis are working to improve the drainback from the canister to the oil fill plug to try and alleviate this. Different riders will get different results. I never have oil puke out but a friend of mine who revs the bike alot and does wheelies for miles at a time(no bullshit) had oil come out often. You should also run 0W40 as per Zip Ty recommendations.
The key to saving the torque limiter is to run at least 1150cc's or it will not be fully bathed in oil. The overheating of the springs in the TL will cause "annealing" according to Zip Ty. That is not a good thing haha.
This winter I will most likely pull the motor and send out my crank and cranckase for a mod done by Zip Ty to add moreife to the engine as well.
The Map 3 is awesome also. Im tempted to pull my JD tuner off and see if it even makes a difference anymore.

does the zip ty tank use reticulated foam in it to help get the oil mist to turn back into oil? i have got my old aviation tech books out looking at the best way to try and get the mist back to an oil to drop back into the engine. ive junked the breather going into the airbox as running oil mist of any kind isn't good. running it down to the chain at the mo whilst working on a way of pulling the mist out of the air. zip ty tank looks great though lol.

you mean like an air filter.lol

more like the foam used to fill the gaps under sump guards etc. as pushing oil mist through a gauze can help get the oil to drop out of the air. you don't want it dropping out onto your air filter in your bike though as it will clog it up.
