  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE511 fuel tap

HuskyHumper

Husqvarna
A Class
Has any had the fuel tap under their petrol tanks become blocked or anything? My bike has run out of fuel in the lower tank, but is still full in the upper tank. It wont transfer the fuel to the lower tank anymore. Its not the tap on the upper tank, its not the hose blocked, and the hose definitely isn't kinked as I have tried all those. I thought it could be a breather, but when you take off the fuel cap it still isn't transferring.

Any ideas or should I just get a new tap for the lower tank?

I don't know the 511's, but assume they are a lot like the TC449....
Have you looked at the breather filters in the fuel lines from the upper tank? They route under the seat and along the frams rails on each side. One of those lines may be pinched or the filters clogged.
I say this as my TC449 has those same lines.
You may also just take the tank cap off to see if the fuel will flow. If so those may be your issue.
Also make sure the upper tap is open.
The taps can get clogged.
You can use a fuel tank sock to help with that.

If your lower tank is not filling your issue is most likely between the two tanks so replacing the valve on the lower tank would have no effect.
The lower tank does have its own vent line running off the top - could be partial issue.

When you say that it is not the tap or lines on the upper tank... did you remove it at the connection to the lower tank and have fuel running freely ?

It may look like a pain but it really isn't too difficult to pull the tanks and give everything a good go-over.

Nar I don't think it is a breather, as I took the tank cap off it still wasn't moving....

I removed the hose at the lower tap, and fuel ran out freely, so the blockage has to be below the hose....that's why I was thinking it could be the lower fuel tap is buggered.
I might pull the lower tank out tonight, see if that tap is blocked or whatever, and check all the breathers

if you have any other suggestions, please share them!!

Thanks for your help as well, much appreciated.

Had it wrong in my head. You very well may be right.
Also worth checking to see if the plunger is all the way down in the valve. I lost the clip off mine at one point and ended up wrapping wire around the notch so it would come down with the screw mechanism.

FYI. when I removed mine I found it easiest to remove the upper subframe bolts as well as the shock. Gives you a lot more room to get everything apart and back together without loosing your mind....

Good luck and let us know what you find.

yep thanks very much for your information mate, much appreciated;) .
What is the purpose of the circlip on the bottom of the taps? I noticed that there was accommodation for one, but they are missing off both taps. As the upper tap runs fine without a clip, I just thought that they weren't relevant to the matter, and that they would both function normally without a clip.
This could possibly have something to do with the problem:thinking:??

That is almost definately your problem. When closing the taps the plunger(black bit where the clip would fit) gets pushed up from the inside. When opening it is pulled down by that clip. You can easily tell by turning the outer piece. If the post does not come down with the outer piece it isn't opening.

As I was nowhere near a shop when I had this issue I just wrapped a bit of wire around it. That was 2 years ago and it's still there. Hope this solves it for you.

Aw yep now I understand...thanks for that.

I will give it a shot as soon as I get home from work, and lyk how I go.

I went back and again looked at the first photo of the lower tap. It sure looks to be closed to me. The knob is too close to the valve body to be open. as compared to mine.

yep it is closed there in that pic. I playing with it yesterday after work, trying to figure out what the problem was. must of just taken that pic when it was closed.

I read a few years back to make sure both were open all the way as this was a common delivery problem. Sounds like you're on the right track. The only other problem would be attributed to a dead/dying fuel pump. But it should gravity feed to the lower tank with engine off.

Yep it was the missing circlip:thumbsup:Luckily I found one that was the right size, and put it on the lower tap. The tank filled up straight away when I opened the tap. For some reason the upper tap works without a clip, I think the plunger must be in there very tightly, and when you open the tap it just opens up. That is why I was confused, I thought if the upper tap doesn't need a clip, why does the lower one??

Thanks for everyone's suggestions:cheers:
