  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE511 Fuel Range

FabOneUp

Husqvarna
Pro Class
I know this is a difficult question and there are may variables involved and I will try and include all of mine. I have a trail ride this weekend that requires a few things out of a bike. A fuel range of 75 miles, a cruising speed of 55 mph, and a plate for street use. I had a 42 tooth sprocket which put the cruising speed around 60 and still works well on the trail system involved since it is pretty open with only a few tight sections that I can clutch around.

Mods to the bike are the power plug and FMF pipe only. I believe it will be a casual ride so the throttle hand will be used lightly. I am sorta sure I can make the 75 mile range, but not positive. I have only had the bike for a little over a month and have not pushed it to see, but with the 42 tooth sprocket and casual throttle use, I think I should be fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Bringing extra fuel would be difficult , but I will if you guys think I should.

I would be more concerned about that seat (uncomfortable) (seatconcepts) and getting it remapped for,the FMF.
I could make the 75 miles, if I'm taking it easy. A backpack with a couple of 1liter fuel bottles would be a good
Idea though...good luck. Loves me some 511!

My local shop has the seat concepts seat in stock, but I have spent a fortune on the bikes this year, so all my extra money goes towards maintenance. It looks like an awesom seat though. As far as getting it remapped, what would I gain other than a little extra power? This is the smoothest running bike I have and it has more power than I need at the moment. I have run a couple hare scrambles with it and it has performed flawlessly.....unlike me.:)
MSR fuel bottles carry 30oz and are sold at REI. You could easily mount those on the rear fender or throw it in a backpack.

Thanks LoM! REI would be convenient for me if I choose to take some extra. It is sounding like you both think I need the insurance.

The map is only $40, and I have the same pipe, thought it could not be better, but it is smoother off the bottom and
Everywhere else. I think is is a little richer and runs a little cooler, with more snap. Your right though, the FMF really
Did make it,run better.

I can make it almost 100 miles on a tank on the road, but am lucky to get 80 on the trails. that was with a 45 tooth sprocket. 75 should be doable. I just bring a siphon hose so I can take gas from my wife's TTR-250 if I run out. Her bike gets 60+ mpgs, but it's boring :). Shutting it off on long downhills helps too. You going to Rampart?

I recently got 105 miles out of a tank and when I filled it back up it took 2.1 gallons, this was a combination of trails and roads and never riding faster than 60Mph on the street. I was quite worried about running out but pleasantly surprised at the pump. Bike is completely stock.

41mpg with BMW map set #3, as per results from Kelly in map B mode (map A mode even higher). 42 tooth rear sprocket is really high geared and unnecessary. 15/48 is as high as would be comfortable for me, but I would add a nomad tank or something of the sorts.

So it sounds like I will most likely make it, but if I want some insurance I should take a small fuel bottle or two. Really am appreciating all the input guys...Thanks!

Yes! Rampart Range from Woodland Park and then through the Terryall Mountains to Breckenridge. The ride is called BreckTreck. You should go Bryce! It's an open invite. 30 riders expected. It would be sweet to have another Husky there and your 45t sprocket should work fine for the 55 mph sections. Here is a link to the ride.

Very promising....Thanks!

I just picked up a filter and my dealer brought up the map you mentioned without me even asking. He said he just got in a new map for the 511 and I needed to bring my bike in so he can load it up. I asked if it was for aftermarket exhaust and he said yes...crazy! It doesn't sound like he is going to charge me either.

I don't know about the pack, but the bottle holsters are sweet! I will be about 20 miles from Wolfman tomorrow and might get those bottles, holsters, and the mounting hardware kit. Love that Wolfman gear!

My dealer mentioned a new map. Is it one of these? Contrary to belief, the 42 tooth sprocket is perfect for this ride. I put some miles on yesterday on the exact trails and fire roads we will be riding and it is awesome! Really bring out a whole new character in the bike. It even climbed the super steep scurry hills without any problems. This sprocket is probably perfect for someone wanting to make an in state adventure bike. Though the 48t sprocket sounds like a perfect sprocket to put on the bike almost full time for my hare scrambles and trail riding. The 50t is a little too low.

The Nomad tank is ok, but it mounts right where I want to mount my bag. A hydration pack is the only thing I want on my back. Tools and rain gear are going in a bag behind the seat...not to mention, the ride is this Saturday. Shipping and install time will make it an impossible option.

Have you seen my setup yet ? It's still evolving, I might bult a MSR fuel bottle or two under the right hard case. More interested in getting my rotopax on the fender and turning it into a nomad.. One thing about the rotopax I like is it has holes in it and is flat so you can strap things on top of it .

I have a Rotopax or two laying around, but I just thought it would be too heavy. It is worth investigating. I have seen your set up here and there and its damn nice! Looks like you've got some skills there RW. Curious to see what you come up with so I can copy it!:)

I'm curious what I come up with too ! Maybe I will finish it up this weekend and start working on my moto-mule trailer :)

Nice. Just make sure you get some ridding in there somewhere. Moto-mule trailer?!....FabOneUp is now following you. That sounds fantastic! The Rotopax mount sounds so insignificant now.:) Is the trailer design all sorted out, or do you just have a vague idea?

All this fuss for nothing, I have a chase truck just call lol
That's right!....you have some time off. Mrs.Fab has to work, so she won't work for a rescue plan if I crash and eat poo or run out of fuel. You gonna be around for that emergency call? And are you going to bring a ramp this time?.:D
