  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE499 - Rad Guard/Brace Suggestions?

I should have bought a set of these sometime ago, but never got around to it.

At dusk last night, while charging a corner, a tree spear found my rad. The resulting impact resulted in a bent rad mount, an awesome dent on the rad just below the fill cap, stripped out rad shroud mounts, and lots of flappy plastic.

The ensuing crash was pretty good too :)

So, I got off lucky. The rad is intact, and trailside surgery put everything else more or less back together. I'm actually shocked the rad welds didn't split, no cracks, no leaks.

Therefore, it is time to buy at least rad guards.

Do any of you experts have any suggestions for rads/braces for a 2011 TE449?

Considerations:

- Cost
- Availability and wait time - For shipping to Canada, I'd like to see parts arrive quickly - not weeks.
- I would prefer to purchase from a North American supplier -- (See above)
- Function - Bike does get dropped pretty often, but rarely carthwheels... much.
- Bling factor :)

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Can recommend Aussie brand FORCE. Have the guards (and braces) fitted, comes in black or stainless, I throw my bike down all the time, never had an issue. Only issue is the braces - which go back and 'brace' off main frame, don't fit IF ZipTy oil recirculation kit is installed. So I have my TE449 with guards AND braces but no oil recirc, and my SMR 511 with guards NO braces but oil recirc.

7602 on mine. Fits with the ZipTy Recirc.

The only thing I did was put heat shrink over the 3 support bars that the grills bolt to as at high idle I would get some noisey vibrations

+1 for 7602 stuff, very good product and fit perfect. A damaged rad may not be so easy to install the guards around though!
