  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any advice on the best radiator fluid to replace existing fluid with after a radiator replacement. Also indications of quantity.
Currently in Australia.

Cheers,

not sure if it's available in australia, you'll have to hunt it down... zip tye xp+ made by evans. it's waterless and has a higher boiling point so it stays liquid rather than vaporizing, and retains it's cooling properties.

my 2010 te250 boiled on the 1st set of switchbacks i climbed with stock coolant, first off road ride after break in. after that ride i purged, dried, and refilled with xp+ and haven't boiled or otherwise lost coolant, and have ridden much worse terrain.

one concern expressed by others is not being able to refill from a camelbak or creek. i haven't needed to in any of the 3 bikes i ride, one 2t, two 4t's. i think if you ruptured the system and had to replace liquid to get home/finish a race you'd be fine, but you would have a lower boiling point. once home you'd want to drain, repair, replace the coolant.

i believe you'll be pleased. with local guys looking for a good coolant to prevent boil-over i make them a deal... "if you aren't satisfied i'll fully reimburse you and take the remainder off your hands." i haven't had to pay a dime yet. i'd be interested to know the price over there.

it was first recommended to me by an independent moto mechanic here. it saved me from having to put a fan on my ktm 450exc. that bike was burping on the tight singletrack. i've since put it in all my bikes. i had tried engine ice with very minimal improvement.

one important thing... be sure to clear all other coolant out of the system. i do a water flush, followed by compressed air, and try to time it so i can let the bike sit to evaporate any water that may remain.
