  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna
A Class
As the miles add up on my 449 I like it more and more.
Took it on some trails near my home in Alger Wa. When I first got it I would stall
it seems that getting to know the way this bike likes to be ridden makes a lot of difference.
Tight woods no problem even with stock gearing :-).
Tight as in lean shoulder on tree and pivot type of tight.
Rode 100 miles of mixed dirt and some road connecting over in Idaho No problem there either.

Have you got the akropovic pipe on it? I picked up my te449 a few weeks ago but the dealer said I have to do 500kms before they'll fit the pipe. It has the resistor/jumper plug in the box I got with the bike but they reckon they plug a computer into the ecu and tune it. From what I've read all that needs to be done is fit the akro pipe and plug in the jumper? Does anyone know about this? So far I'm very happy with the bike other than the fact it sounds like a ride on mower with the stock pipe and the clutch seems to be very noisy when in neutral with the clutch released.

yes power up is the muffler and the pug that goes in under the seat and makes it run much richer / better. Personally I would do it ASAP because i think it runs way lean stock which is not good.

Cool thanks. I haven't had anything to do with dirt bikes for years but I'm guessing the jd6x is just like a power commander?

yep^, I just put a 14 tooth front sprocket on my 511 and that with the pipe and the tuner it is so fun to ride now. I really enjoy it. I think for the price it costs to change the front sprocket it was well worth it.
just my 2 cents worth.

The dealer said they plug it in and tune it???
I worked for a Husky dealer and the diagnostics for the Keihin EFI system on TE449 & 511`s do not have any provisions for tuning, such as altering mixtures, like the Mikuni system does on the 250, 310 & earlier 450`s. When uncrated, we would fit the Akro. muffler and plug, to put the ECU into race map. The only way to do any tuning as such, is through a JD tuner or the like. I can`t comment on these as I have never used one. I no longer work for a husky dealer, and I find the mapping on my `11 TE449 is so bloody spot on, I have no need or want to play with it. It it aint broke, don`t touch it!

Awesome. I have been thinking about changing the front sprocket but was having a bit of trouble finding what combinations people are using.

that was exactly how I felt when JD asked to borrow my TE511 to design his tuner program for. When it returned I could not believe how much better my perfect running bike ran. Gained 11hp on top and better running all around.

James is a pretty smart cookie. He helped me get my tmxx on my 11 wr300 working perfect.

Ive wondered if the uk bikes have a different map compared to your usa bikes. In reference to the jd tuner i run stock setting on idle and low rpm, mid to high rpm im richer but not as much as what the jd came with. My bike revs so high and free reving i have to hold back on the revs id say 11000rpm would be about what i rev it too. Ive now moved away from the lowering idea of the rear shock it just needs the correct spring. Its a very good race bike im now collecting trophies which has only happened on the te449 for me. Great bike

I am not sure what the dealer is talking about then. I booked it in today for its first service for Monday and he was still saying he needed to plug in the laptop and tune it? Everything else I've read just says fit the pipe and plug in the resistor. Could they be installing later software? Or for some reason just don't want me doing it myself?

I think the best way to know for sure is...tell the dealer "Show Me" this magical laptop you speak of sir!

Agreed. There was some talk at my shop about the chance of tuning the EFI on my "11 TE449. At first the mechanic thought he could do it. Then after some calls to Husky, he said he couldn't. Get the JD and never look back.

Awesome. I have been thinking about changing the front sprocket but was having a bit of trouble finding what combinations people are using.
I went down to a 14t (still have the standard 51t rear) and loved it. 99% of my riding is singletrack and it just made it so much better to ride. Made the power delivery a bit snappier too, but mainly made it easier to ride in the tight stuff.

Wow! Thats a massive increase. Makes you wonder why they don`t set it up that way from the factory.
How far do you get to a tank now?

+1

I bought the 14t front sprocket but havent put it on yet.
I keep riding and working on riding better.
Sometimes I do roads most times single track.
Do not have any kind of pipe cause quiet is really a priority for me.
The dealer did the power up for me when I bought the bike and I put on the JD tuner. happy with what I have.
Love torqing up the hills in the tight woods, do have to keep up a certain speed though.
Broke my little toe the other day smacking into a stump. Trails are tight here. I can still ride just have to grit my teeth until the pain levels off LOL
