  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449 lowered shock - Too much?

Was looking into fitting the Racetech 4mm shock lowering spacer and ended up swapping my 2011 shock for a mate's 2011 shock that had supposedly already had the mod done. After checking the shock side by side with mine his shock is approx 1 inch shorter. I did find my bike just slightly too tall and after reading everyone's good reviews on the lower shock / 2012 onwards improvement I was keen to try it.

I know that the Racetech OAL (over all length??) reduction spacer is listed at 4mm and I was not aware of any other form of shock length modification being available. My mate is not sure what the previous owner of his bike had done to the shock exactly. Does the approx 1" reduction in shock length (shocks sitting on the ground next to each other out of the bike) sound right for the Racetech 4mm spacer mod?

My old shock is already installed in my mates bike and I'm fitting this lowered shock tonight. Hoping it is going to be what I thought it was.

Hmmmm

You will get about that much lowering of the rear end due to the ratio between the shock mount and the rear axle...but a 4mm spacer should make the shock .... 4mm shorter. Sounds like something else was done.

"his shock is approx 1 inch shorter" Do you mean his bike is 1"shorter or the shock itself is shorter by 1 "? If you mean the bike, that might make sense as there is a linkage, etc.

No unfortunately the shock is around 1" shorter. If anyone has done the 4mm reduction spacer do you think it would be possible that a larger spacer has been custom made? I can't find pics of the Racetech spacer anywhere.
