  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449 Exhaust Protector

I've been doing a lot of researching on trying to find out the best way to make the bike safer for a passenger so they don't burn a hole threw their leg with the hot pipe. I see I've tried to purchase the OEM exhaust protector at the wrong time seeing as its discontinued and so far non existent on the internet. I wanted to see if the pros had any knowledge and good ideas I could use. The product P3 has was perfect but I don't have the akrapovic, I have the bigger sized stock pipe. I have some heat wrap my brother gave me that was purposed for a car turbo. Its really good and thick material and I figured it would dial down the heat coming off the pipe. I also see ZipTy has Giant Loop Hot Springs Heat Shield that I was thinking about putting over the piped after I wrap the pipe. Does this idea sound pretty good? Or is there something I could do or a product I could purchase that would be a better fit for my situation?

There isn't much out there but you could make something. The SMR pipe shield is quite a bit bigger than the TE, you might find one of those.

However the passengers legs are not really that close to the pipe when they are on the bike, they are more forward, so it may not be quiet as much of an issue as you suspect

I did see a picture of the SMR pipe and noticed the heat shield did have a bit more coverage. I will look into that right now to see if there is a part that will cover more. I tend to try to go a little extra since that pipe gets extremely hot, I would just hate to have something happen and scar up a passenger in an event I might be able to prevent. Thank you for that idea, Im gonna check it out right now.
