  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449/511 supposed to come with a muffler?

Wow- sorry guys. I also thought the Akro exhaust was included (everywhere)...

In retrospect- too bad they did not just do to the Akroprovic what they did to the 09-10 TE Arrow exhausts- where you could simply slide out the cat and Abra-Cadabra you have a nice exhaust system... I bet they do something slightly different next year like the 2008/ compared to the 2009-10 exhausts.

my sympathies to all US buyers. I hope there becomes available a slip on that is not too much $.

An opportunity has certainly been created for FMF, Leo, Pro Circuit ... somebody.

Since a high percentage of US bikes get their pipes swapped, this probably isnt as crazy as it sounds, and no doubt helped hold down the price a bit .... look at all the 610s that got a Leo to help them run and sound right.

Having an aftermarket option in the short run seems to be the worst of it.

Note: Picture of actual US TXC 511 with Akro

And a US TE 511 with the udder muffler. This is pretty much what pushed me over to a TXC, along with the suspension and price differential. Any one of those things probably would have kept me on a TE. Now I have to buy a scooter for street duty I guess.

The day I bought my TE449, my dealer told me that the (US) TE & TXC will come the Franconi muffler only. Before he told me this I also thought that I would get a extra muffler with the bag of goodies that came with my bike. If fact all of the TE & TXCs that he had on the floor had the Franconi muffler. Below is one of the TXC 511 on his dealership floor that has the Franconi mufflers.

Franconi: are the (Large) stock mufflers - (US) TE & TXC 449/511.
Akrapovic: are the (Slim) racing mufflers - (TC 449)

Dunno what to say, but my TXC 511 has both. Maybe there is also a difference between the 449 and the 511? or maybe there is a difference in dealers? Mine is from Bills, the pic I linked to is MotoXotica, both TXC 511 with the Akro pipe.

I would like to point out that what happens in 1 country cannot really be compared to other countries. All sorts of things change. Price, regulations, warranty..

Though it would be nice to get the additional muffler..

Certainly true, Coffee......

It is now pretty clear that the 449/511 TEs in the US are being delivered with the LaFranconi only, which isnt particularly unusual. Ive bought lots of motorcycles and they all came with one muffler, and a few of them got replaced after the purchase. The unusual thing in this situation is that for some reason Husqvarna delivered 2 mufflers in at least some countries. No doubt they had good reason for doing so and we may never know why. That doesn't mean they should deliver 2 in the US.

I would encourage Husqvarna USA to get the US specs published as that would cut down on people referring to AU, Greece or other locations for (not necessarily relevant) information. The internet wont stop us from gathering inappropriate, irrelevant, etc information :-)

It is nice that Cafe Husky members have an opportunity to become better informed purchasers by sharing, but there really in no point in random complaining about Husqvarna configuring the bikes as they see fit, or thought necessary. Their configuration decisions influenced my purchasing decision, and those purchasing decisions by everyone will give them feedback about how to reconfigure, or not, their future offerings. In this case, a lack of prior knowledge (published specs/features) and a lack of alternatives is highlighting the issue IMHO. If I knew I could pick up an FMF or Leo muffler for $300 then I may have very well chose a TE, but that option isnt yet available so I went TXC. On the other hand I rode a TE511 with the big muffler and found the tone completely inoffensive. It wouldnt be my choice for off-road duty due to the size, but I would have no problem using it on the street, unlike my stock 610 muffler which I found to make an annoying sound...

Your mileage may vary, as they say.

I dont expect my US stuff to be exactly the same as similar products in other countries due to a variety of factors, but it does appear that DesertHusky in Las Vegas has an anomalous situation with his TXC compared to at least Bill's and MotoXoticas examples sitting on their showroom floors. I have no idea where he bought his bike and I didn't intend to cast dispersions on his dealer. I think a lack of information and clarity is the primary problem at this point, but that is being cleared up as we learn and share this sort of information. No doubt we will soon know if he has some other variation (449?) that was previously unknown or there is another reason for his particular configuration.

Oregon sage.. I am pretty sure I met you over at Motoshop and we talked to Brandon a bit. I have an 09 te310 and am looking very hard at bumping up to a 449. I bought my bike at Bills too and will call him tomorrow to ask about the akro issue. If so, I am buying a txc and putting supermoto tires on my 310 for summer. We have to get together and hit up four corners or china hat... or maybe the secret westside spot...shhh! don't tell!

All european TE´s (449&511) come with a 42hp Mapping, the LaFranconi installed and the Akra in the PartsBox with Manuel etc..
While making it Customerready, the dealer installs the Akra, that comes stock in whole Europe.
After he pulls the MappingCable and since that the 449 shows "RaceMap2" in the Speedo and generates the full 52hp.
There are also no sanctions (like the BMW450X) an the warranty, when it´s "opened"!

Sorry I keep looking at that picture...That's a HeeUUUUUUGE exhaust!.. could probably sell it to someone with a Hyabusa an make some money back

that isnt good i got akroprovik silencer with mine free and the standard one with the bike in race mode pre fitted before delivery, the standard one is very ugly

I hated in in pix but in person it does not offend me and it is REALLY quite which is cool.

I already managed to scratch it when rolling it into the shop and grazing my air compressor outlet

I think the lack of a side plate makes it look big too...

I got the TE because i wanted the plate for way more versatility. Also the plush suspension is what i need for what I ride and the DS this bike will get. If i was buying it for stricky off road or racing I would have obviously got the TXC.

So the TXC come with both but not the TE's OK. I also noticed the TXC511 above has a reflector on the swingarm, my TE does not, odd you would think it would be the other way around.

Its annoying isnt it.. i feel for you on the exhaust, simple thing marketing, quite easy to lists the specs... no idea why the european ones come with both.. i feel Husky letting itself down in this regard.. i emailed Husky with a simple question to confirm regarding fork specification for the uk wr models looking to buy a 2st whilst acknowledging my email ive yet to recieve a reply (4 weeks).. I also emailed KTM ( shh) a similar question and got a detailed response within 4 hours later..... ..
Your bike looks awesome... bet that scratch is hurting ya..

have fun

i saw the stock silencer on a 449 here in the uk, god its looks ugly, can't understand why husky don't just give you both and let the owner decide****************************************

does is want to go around right hand corners all the time do you find yourself leaning to the left when riding to balance the weight

joking aside not funny ime having few after sales issues myself
