  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna
A Class
Hey all. Im going to buy one or the other but am unsure of what changes ( if any) were made between these two bike models? Just want to derestrict it, set up suspension and put kms on it!:D. Any problems I should be aware of...... (only my second Husqvarna).
Mick.

There were some minor improvements done for 2012 if memory serves although I don't recall what they were except for the one glaring
unimprovement which is the lack of a keyed ignition on the 12's. The graphics are a little different too. They're great bikes once dialed in.
They handle surprisingly well in the bush. Actually the keyless ignition may just be for 511's. I'm sure someone else will know the answer.
What was your first Husky ?

Ive still got my first husky, its a te630 and i love it for its designed usage! But as far as enduro bikes ive owned ktms, tms and one vor (god i wish they still made them, my en530 was THE best bike i owned) . Married with children now and wanting something to get keen again. I still own a 2008 ktm 200, and its a great bike but I would like another stroker.

If I recall, the rear shock length was shortened a bit (don't remember measurement difference) to lower seat height slightly and to improve handling a little. Quite a few members here have mentioned shortening their own rear shocks on their 2011 models if they did not have long enough legs.

The engine, it's internal tuning, and injection maps are the same.

They changed from Saxxes rims in '11 to Excel in '12 and color changed from black to natural pollished.

I think that is about all I remember...anybody else?

The 2012 449/511 compared to the 2011 has:

New Graphics.
New one piece rear fender component.
Stronger all black frame with a lower profile. The new version uses a higher 25CrMo4 chrome-moly steel content to the steering neck, engine mounts and cts areas and improves overall rigidity.
Thinned down electrical system removes feed back loop error with water proof connectors. Most come with key-less ignitions (though can be added later).
Rear Kayaba mono-shock is shorter by 4 mm by adding (2) 2mm internal spacers, further reducing seat height and improving high speed handling.
Front suspension was improved with progressive dampening, more aggressive valving.
Silver Excel rims.
WP radiators added having increased cooling efficiency, capacity and are reinforced.
Improved mapping and ignition timing changes.

My 11 has black Excels. It is a late model 11 though, maybe that made a difference.

Id go for the 11 since its bound to be cheaper and you will most likely have to re-spring either one once you figure them out.

You cant go wrong with either in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies! Might have to flip a coin............ :D. Which ever one I get will be derestricted (tuned) and i'll have to do the suspension as i am too heavy for the stock spring rates. I'll post some pics when decision is made!
