  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310R spark plug removal

Is it really this difficult?

There's not enough room above the plug hole to pull the extension/socket combo out once the plug has been backed out. There's a bracket with a couple of electrical connectors fastened to it that stops it. Does that have to come off? Also, the frame drain hose sits right above it, in the way.

I love riding this bike, but man is it a PITA to do the simplest maintenance on, compared to my '09.

Any suggestions?

I have a "Box Wrench" which has a rubber insert that grips the Plug, with this you can pull the Plug straight out with the Wrench.

I am fairly sure this wrench is a "Husky" part, bought from my dealer ?

I wish I had the smaller TC Tank, that makes Plugs, Air filters etc... much easier. We lost a lot, to gain about half a litre !!!

I hear you! The extra little bit of tank capacity isn't worth the hassle.

I'm trying to pick up that wrench. Sounds like it would help. It is listed in the service manual, so I was able to get the part #.

Thanks for helping!

Yeah, tank is removed. It's a metal bracket that's getting in the way, which hangs below the frame. The frame drain hose is in the way, too, but it can be pushed mostly out of the way.

Hey Andrew. If you can put the socket on, all you have to do is give it a quarter turn, remove the socket & undo it the rest of the way with your fingers. Is that possible? Should only be tight at the very beginning.

Hi Dan! Yeah, the problem is that I can't turn the socket without an extension, but when it's backed out enough for the plug to come out, I don't have room to pull the extension out of the head with the socket.

I think the key might be the Husky plug wrench that DG Harv mentioned. Rob didn't have one in stock, so I'll probably just get him to order it. I think my extension is just the 'wrong' length, but the plug well is pretty deep, also.

How about a ride sometime? We can keep it casual because of your DS tires! :)

I should be able to on Monday.
Is it a normal spark plug socket? Does it have a hex head at the top to use an open end wrench instead of an extension?
