  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Livin' It Up!
Just breaking in my new 310R and after a combo of trail and pavement got a hair over 55 MPG. Running 47T rear. Wondering if this is going to be about right with the understanding that all trail, sand etc will drop it some. Planning a ride in Death Valley at the end of March and I am trying to figure how far I can go on a tank. I will carry 1 gallon extra and need to make about 130 miles to be safe. That's probably pushing it but thought I would see what folks are getting in dual sport use; not on the gas all the time.

I have gone over 100 miles on several occasions on my '12TE310 with a 50t rear sprocket and stock tank. I think DS riding with a spare gallon would easily make 130 miles.

These get good milage DSing and street but drop a lot as you go off road and get aggressive. Still good but noticeably less off road and ridden harder.

Thank! Just the kind of info I was looking for. I'll breathe a little easier when starting on a 120 mile route as long as I can carry an extra gallon.

I get 80+ pretty consistently till the reserve light pops on. Figure I could go 100-110 miles.

I am right at 45 mpg with 13/48 gearing, open map and full FMF exhaust (2012 TE310). I have pushed 100 miles between fill ups a few times and still had a gas in the tank.

Has anyone seen, or do they have, the IMS 2.9 gallon tank? It looks like the factory side panels go on the tank but I may have to call to confirm. For the occasional time when a little more range is needed that extra .8 gallon would be very nice!

It's not .8 more. The stock tank is 2.25 so it's just a hare over a half gallon. I saw one at Halls and it was gloss black. Looked OK I guess. Just not sure about any fitment issues, clearance problems and such.

Lots of money for half a gallon! But, I do like the idea of a black tank if the stock side panels will attach. IMS does not show a black version.

The Husky fenders make nice transports for spare fuel. I personally use MSR bottles and secure them with old cut up tubes. The tubes are free and the "V" shaped fender holds the bottle well.

In the "good ole' days" before we ruined the planet, I would tote my gas in a Gatorade bottle, and as soon as I got the first 20 miles down, I would dump the bottle in the tank and then drop a match in the bottle. It was recycling before recycling was cool...

My intention is to throw on my Wolfman Enduro bags and put a two liter bottle in each. Just have to determine which bottle to use as it needs a wide cap. Then not get nailed by a Leo or catch flack from the gas station operator. To avoid the latter I will take along a 5 gal gas can and fill the bottles at camp.

MSR bottles are approved auto gas fill and transport. They are as safe or safer than the bike tank itself. The 30oz is quite a good chunk of fuel. The real MSR botles are extremely tough. I think the 30 is only about $17-19.

I haven't seen any talk of it on the 310's, but on a couple of older KTMs, we did the boiled water and pressure trick which would yield a significant increase in capacity. You just have to be careful with your mounts and do it ON the bike. Fill the tank with boiling water and put a positive pressure on the tank - it doesnt take much, just 2-3 psi and you can gain quite a bit. That was my beater bike solution - not sure I would do it on a 6K scoot!
