  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310 Tank insert repair/stripped

Thank You Lankydoug... I'll get a hold of the tool next week and give it a try!!! You posted a link for 6m... Are your sub frame inserts 6m's. Mine are 5m's...... THANKS AGAIN
I don't remember if they were 6mm or 5mm I was just posting an example of the inserts. The tool comes with different arbors for several sizes. These are handy when doing any fabricating when you need to have a threaded hole in a thin metal sheet. For example these are used to mount extended mirrors to doors and spare tire racks and ladders to van doors and trailers.

Just used the insert tool and all is well...... So far so good and it's not spinning yet!!! Is it possible to over tighten on these inserts.....

To remove tank bolts , heat an 8mm 6 point deep socket to 200/250 degrees , put it on a long extension and rachet . Put the HOT socket on the bolt for 30 seconds then try a quick hit to the rachet in the off direction with a small hammer . Increase time on the bolt as necessary . (this process makes the bolt shoulder grow away from the insert face) .

Treat it just like a rivet when it stops compressing your done. You will quickly see that the factory didn't even come close to getting them tight.

This thread can get a little confusing because we are talking about tank inserts and sub frame inserts which are completely different. For the record, I'm speaking only about sub frame inserts.
