  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310, 2013 OR RUNOUT 2012 ?

Hi all,
I think my '07 TE450 is a bit tall for me, i'd like a little less weight too, i'm only 5'3" and struggle a bit at times.
So i think a TE310 is the go, i've been really hesitant on an injected enduro but after having a shopping day i'm sold. I really need to know where i'm at, the forum was great helping me set up my old bike, what should i look for to improve? do they come with a power up kit? what's the injector/ecu mod? is it necessary?
And mainly, should i pay the extra for a 2013 or snap up a left over 2012?
thanks for the help, i'll be trolling the threads for info myself but any words of wisdom will be appreciated.

paul.

Hi Paul,

The 310 is probably a good choice for you, being 18 kg's lighter and with a 30 mm lower seat height, i have a 2012 310 which is an awesome bike and i've done pretty much everything to it.
If i was in your position i'd probably spend a little extra and get the 13 310, because of the battery less Keihin fuel injection which means if your battery dies, you can still start and ride the bike, with the 12's no battery no go. It also has stronger radiators better switch gear and it also doesn't have the annoying breather hose on the oil drain plug, and also with $500 cash back and an accessories pack at the moment that makes the 13's pretty good value.
Being in Australia your bike should come powered up from the dealer, just mention it to them when buying.
As far as the injector and ecu goes yes they are necessary, both bikes in Australia come with the 12 hole injector and race ecu.
Without it on the 2011/12 model x-lights had a small bog of idle which would cause some stalling issues, some bikes had this bog some didn't. In 2012 the Australian distributor Paul Feeny Group included the injector and ecu free of charge for all 2012 model bikes, where the rest of the world didn't get them and had to pay for it if they wanted it.
As far as improvements go put all the necessary protection on it like, rad guards, bash plate, bark busters, frame guards, put your favourite tyres on it put fuel in it and roost away:banana:
Don't worry about fuel injection it's very reliable, i've had 4 injected bikes and never had reliability issues with it. I could be wrong and often am but isn't your 07 450 fuel injected?
Hope this helps.

The '13 does have the breather hose on the drain plug, at least in the USA. It does not come with a power up kit but was told parts should be available for one. My '13 310 needed to be tuned when new and have the restricted intake plate in the filter swapped for the unrestricted version. Runs much better now and seems to get better as I log more miles. Great low end and no flame outs since the re-tune.

It quite possibly does here too, maybe i'm thinking of the 250. I spent a fair bit of time looking at both at the shop the other day, maybe i got confused again, happens to me a lot! What day is it?

I've read the 250 does not have that breather though the 310 needed it.

You don't have to have the breather return, but it is super nice to put the oil back into the engine. I am going to great lengths to have one installed on my 449.
Ty took out a MY13 310 last Friday, he liked it, it had good power. We run power-bombs and powercommanders on them and they are nearly as fast as the 449's. Suspension can be set up to be butter smooth.

I don't think they have released one to the public oregon, it's going to be the same as the old one but with the new bend. Just get a 2012, I think Fire is selling his in the classified section, and have a shop weld the chamber in on yours. I wouldn't wait. It's about 3.8 hp increase, Ty has dyno services again, thank god.

Yes, cut and weld may be the answer.

Oh and before I forget, check your flywheel on your 250/310's ASAP! Husqvarna is still shipping the bikes with loose flywheels. And what happens is the dealer's will impact them on because they don't make a tool that holds them in place while you torque them. This fractures the key and causes all sorts of problems. I am sure you have heard of slipped flywheels, this is why. Husqvarna asked us to make a tool to fix the issue and we just made it. You can purchase the tool from Hall's (CH sponsor).

thanks for the replies, there's about $1600 between them at the moment. I'm busy applying the screws to get a deal....
saw an arrow full system for a tc250 while at the dealers, it says for 2011 onwards, will it fit the TE310?
My 07 is the last of the carbed 450's and after a quick ride this afternoon i really love it, maybe shave the seat before i decide further....

Go for the '13. From what I hear there is a possibility of much less headaches and a strong, smooth runner right out of the box. Cant beat the Keihn fuel injection system. If my 'like new' '12 TXC wasnt worth so little on trade I would have bought the '13 TXC instead of my used TC449. But of course try and get them down on price even more!

I had the exact same question myself. A '12 can be found for well under $6000, while a decent deal on a'13 is around $7600. The 310 would become my lady's ride. However, the more she rides my 449, the more she likes it.

I think that while many improvements have been made on the '13 310, they still have issues with starters, flywheels, etc. that Husky chose not to address whilst focused like a laser on the motor improvements.

Looks like the new plan is to let her ride my '11 449 while I start shopping for a 511!

That is an excellent plan. Those bmw motors will be no more and they are a fantastic engine, much better than the KTM engines.

Not sure what the supply looks like in CA, but I know Bills http://billshusky.com has both new and used 449/511s in stock in Oregon....and Im getting really tempted to buy a TC449 this month...I love the CTS and the BMW/Kymco engine.
