    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TE310 2012- how do I take off the gas tank ?

Hi guys- a bit of a stupid question I know. I newly bought this injection bike and am not used to taking off the tank. It seems to be held at the back by the fuel pump. What I need to know is how do I disconnect the fuel pipe from the pump to the carb, is it just pulled off- or should I use a pair of grippers? What should I look out for ?
I need to do this because I went for a ride on the edge of a river when the water was low (an Icelandic tidal river) , and there was still about a few mm of water. This made it very flat, for practicing turns in sand. When I got home - after a 3 KM ride- I noticed my radiator cap was missing. There was a fair bit of sand on the bike- and up by the rads. I am wondering what would happen if sand got into the radiator ? Is there a chance of the engine getting ruined ? is there a filter somewhere that I could clean ? First part is to get the tank off and take off the right radiator half- and flush it out- followed by removing all the fluid.
Anybody got any ideas ?

The tank is a little tricky to get off. First turn off both fuel taps and remove the hose from the Left hand one. Then unplug the wiring that comes off the right hand tap (reserve indicator). You don't need to remove the covers on the tank, just the side plates. lift the tank from the rear and get access to the hose that goes to the pump, this is the tricky part, you need to squeeze both sides of the lugs on the hose to be able to slide the hose off, from memory they are white, and be careful not to bend/break the hose barb off the pump as it is plastic. Once the hose is off, lift the tank from from the back first, then the front. The hose you removed will slide under the frame when you lift the tank.

If you got sand in your cooling system, I would be flushing everything and remove the water pump cover to get in there as well, also remove the thermostat and flush that out as well.

Ther is also an electrical connection to the fuel pump that needs to be unpluged under the tank.
 
If you don't get sand out of the rad, not likely it's anywhere else.

Might help if you get someone to hold the tank as you attempt to dis-connect as it might let you see AND feel that connector. After doing it a few times you can likely do it by feel.

I managed to get the fuel pipe off from the petrol pump under the back of the tank. The tank was a bit on the heavy side as it was full of petrol !
The way to do it is to lift up the back of the tank and with your had going under it above the head - push in the white painted portions of the union as it attaches to the plastic union- while sliding the pipe off. I should have taken pictures while I was doing it :thinking: Anyway - after we got the tank off- we flushed out the radiator and took off the cover from the water pump and flushed that out.
Put it all together and filled the rad with new fluid - and the new cap on top. Then went for a ride.
