    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TE310 2011 and 2013 - Valve shim diameter

Hi:

I have a 2011 TE310 (in California) and recently acquired a low mile 2013 TE310 (in France). Both are due for a valve clearance check (the 2011 because it's running crappy and I don't think it ever had the valve cheched, the 2013 because it just hit the its first 1000km and there is a recommended check then).

What are the valve shim diameter? It would be too easy if the'd be the same of course! :eek:

For the 2011 I can buy individual shims once I know what I need (if any), for the 2013, it will be more difficult as it's in a remote village in Europe so for this one I might need to buy a kit just in case.

What's the recommended setup on each (the service manual calls 0.15mm on the intake and 0.20 on the exhaust)?

Any tips / recommendations when doing this procedure? (I have done it many times before, but actually never on bikes that use shims... All my old Honda's, Husqvana's and Husabergs used the screw type adjuster).

They are the small size. i think most kits are either large or small.

Don't know off hand but shims for a honda Crf250 are suposed to fit.
 
uh, 7.9mm???? should be easy to find out from the seller what huskys take (I think the big ones are like 10-12mm)

shims are the same as rocker arms with adjusters: measure, adjust in that correct direction- measure again. ok, ok- the shims are a hassle ....and there is more math, I guess; but the procedure is the same.

put a feeler gauge in the gap and get the measurement. 0.05mm too big? put in a shim that's 0.05mm fatter. remeasure. also, I like to put a mic or caliper on the shim regardless if I can still read the value or not.

btw, just in case: 0.15mm is 0.006"; 0.20mm is 0.008", both of which I consider a bit fat for DOHC motors (there's nothing there like pushrods to be growing much). And 0.05mm is 0.002"
 
I have a 2012 te310. I advise upgrading the plastic elbow under the tank to a metal style from zipty racing The plastic elbow often breaks
