• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 630 Overland Project

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention the clutch pushrod update. My oil experience was after the pushrod replacement. Oil does definitely make a difference.

Bob, do you use the Mobile 1 product in your 630? I use the Mobile 1 in my autos but not the bike due to the wet clutch. Is there a specific Mobil 1 product for wet clutch motorcycles?

I'm using the automotive product - they do make motorcycle specific formulas also. Don't know if the automotive stuff has friction modifiers but I've never had any issues.

Not exactly related but here's a pretty good read on current thinking for automotive viscosity, opened my eyes a bit. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/

Sorry for the lack of updates. Been distracted. . . ;)

We are taking the 630 out on Friday to photograph the new farkle and ride the Sedona red rock

Scott, looks great. Now, get yourself a single FMF Q4 and a light weight battery. Drops 20 pounds and you will feel the difference.

20 pounds would be a nice change, although this 630 feels like a mountain bike after all of the monster adventure bikes I have been riding ;)

I am using the Boulder duffel on the rear

And a little tank bag for sundries. I find that the ergonomics on this bike don't work well with a big tank bag for me.

I used this Wolfman stuff on the TAT a few years ago, and liked it. Made in the USA too. . .

Not many updates on the Husky, but plenty of moto travel as of late. Really missing the weight advantage of the 630 in the silt of Baja!

Although it is pretty crazy what you can do with a big GS, if you are willing ;)

Well, the bike needs to go in for service. I am just getting horrible shifting performance from the bike, with crunchy shifts between gears and nearly impossible to get into neutral. I thought I remember reading about a shift fork recall or something similar? Are there any know failures with transmissions/clutch with such low miles? (1,600 miles)

Thanks for any insight/help

^ The bikes like fresh oil. The consensus is when the shifting gets rough to get fresh oil in to the bike. If you haven't changed it already. Follow the sound advice of Tinkin here on CH and go with a lower weight oil then recommended by the factory. I run Shell Rotella T6 5w/40w in everything and change the oil often. I also run stainless steel oil filters in the bikes. What are you running, and do you change the oil often?

Clutch push rod TSB (resolves inability of finding neutral when stopped) clutch spring washer upgrades (due to wear) are the only common issues that I've heard about.

Has there been anything found in your oil filter, oil filter screens or on the magnet drain plug that makes you cringe?

Thanks for the update guys. I am taking it to the dealer today and will make those recommendations. It has fresh oil and the problem is mostly finding neutral.

My girlfriends SM630 had issues finding neutral when coming to a stop and after I installed the updated clutch push rod the problem was immediately resolved. Surprisingly when I pulled the push rod from my TE630 it had already had the revised push rod installed from the factory. It would appear that early production 630s (which her SM630 was) had the problem push rod.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. The updated clutch push rod fixed the neutral issue immediately. I had the service performed at Screwie Lewies in north Phoenix. They are a new Husky dealer and service center, but did a great job.

The new pushrod is the one with the hex shaped end, correct?
I'm having trouble hitting neutral on my bike, was thinking of changing the oil from Motul 10W-50to one of these Penrite ones (which I can get for a good price and seem to be a good oil (being API SN grade or better and JASO MA certified):

Penrite:
MC4ST 5W-40
Premium 5 5W-50
Racing 10 10W-40

Originally I was thinking the 5W-50, but maybe I should go for the 5W-40?
