• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TE 630? Anyone pick one up yet?

I rode mine until the fuel light came on. Here's the range/mpg I got:

128.5 mi
2.615 gal
49.14 mpg

The tank is 3.17 gal. according to the owner's manual. So, "reserve" is roughly 1/2 gal. Once the light comes on, you have about 25 miles until your out of fuel.

Probally, and hopefully so for you.. It kinda snuck up on me as well. Got signifigantly stronger about every 500 miles or so up to about 1,500 miles, and then even just a lil stronger from there to about 2,000 or so miles. Maybe think about your gearing as well.

I'm not sure about how it works out on the 630, but with the stock gearing of the 610 at 15-45, that kind of bike with knobbies has no need to go ANYWHERE near the speeds eventually reachable when it's strong and broken in. My 610 has been at 15-47 for most of its life and that was really good. Just those 2 teeth made a great improvement. I'm now at 14-47 just because the 14T was all I could get locally when I needed a new CS sprocket quickly. While I love the lugging in the tight stuff, overall it's too short for my taste now, cause I do about 50-60% road. I'm thinking now for my taste that either 14-45 or 15-48 may be about perfect.

I'll have to figure out the gearing thing when I finally get the chance to get out on some dirt. So far, I've ridden a little on some gravel roads and that's been the extent of it. We've been getting more rain than I've ever seen this summer - everything is under water. The closest off-road park to me is completely submerged; even the parking lot.
 
I took a dremel to the ribs on the back of the mudflap. I did start to see a little wear on the swingarm from them.

Yes, I picked up a copy last week. Nice 630 review. They also give
high marks for the TE310 and 250 for street legal dirt bikes. Then the
head to head comparison of the TE510 and 530EXC. Of course they
favored the KTM. Some things never change. Not sure what to make
of the 450 Offroad shootout in regards to the TXC. They said it's the
only dedicated race bike of the bunch but in the end it didn't fair that
well. Of course, KTM is everyone's darling. Some things never change.

I'm only Ridden one other 610 to compare to mine, and honestly I could not believe it was the same bike. Mine had a leo and was uncorked, his was stock. his was like a trail 90 by comparison.

I have no doubt that once george works his magic on these things it will be a beast.

On my 610, 14-45 was OK, but for daily commute on the freeway, was running 5100+ RPM all the time, wears on you a bit. Bike did not care, just felt wound up. 15-45 was too high for the trail, 14-45 was better.

Now running 14-47 and 15-47. The 15-47 seems about the best general purpose combo, low enough for most trail and all dirt roads. I put the 14-47 on for extended dirt focused trips like Moab and several DS rallies in the last month. It is OK on the freeway commuting, but the 15T front is calling me louder every day. I think that once I slip the 15T back on, it is likely to stay that way for a long time.

My '07 610 has a viby spot at about 5100 RPM which accounts for the urge to move to the 15T-47T combo again. Where is the 630 viby spot? With its design changes, it might be quite different.

Agreed. Stock gearing is definetely too tall for single track trails. The
only gearing change I've made was going from 15 to 14 and that made
a significant difference, imo. Lost a little on the top speed, mine tops
out around 95mph but I don't do much freeway so no biggie. Was thinking
about going with a 47 or 48 on the rear and am curious what kind of affect
that'll give me and if it's even worth it. I do approx. 70/30 dirt/street.

I cleaned all the oil off the underside of the bike, then let it idle while I watched it, dabbing with a clean paper towel. The oil is coming from both the big magnetic drain plug and the oil pump gasket.

Crush washers for the plugs and a new oil pump gasket is enroute from Hall's. Hopefully, that clears it right up!

14/45 had me running above 5000 RPM longer than I wanted since I commute freeway 5 days a week. Going to 15/48 woudl be the same result. So I went 15/47 and really like that combo. I went with 14/47 for multi-week dirt trips but found I do nto like it that much. Going back to 15/47.

On twisty single track with the 14/47 combo I was running high RPM in first gear a lot of time or lugging it in 2nd a bit of time. High RPM in first gear on this bike is skidding or roosting. 15/47 seems to work better for hookup (less roosting), less shifting. For desert riding, either works well for me because I am usually 2nd gear or higher.
 
Last night, I was able to turn the idle back down to the factory 1650 RPM. The stalling issue seems to have gone away, and I think the idle is even a tad low. I need to edge it up a little.
 
I may be able to host the manual on my FTP server. It will take some time for me to set up a public account for everyone to use, though. So, if anyone has anything readily available, I'd be more than happy to email it to you for hosting. We might as well put the owner's manual and the parts/accessories catalogues up there, too.
 
I would like the manual, but have no way to host it. Don't even know how. I am still waiting for an owners manual. It is supposed to come on a disk or something? Just winging it so far, but I thought I read somewhere that a valve adjust is done @ 500 miles? That seems early, and I am @ 900+ now.

I got both a paper owner's manual and a Husqvarna-branded 1GB flash drive that contains the manual, and various swag catalogues. They were all sent to me by Hall's, who received them after-the-fact. The manuals didn't ship with the bikes.

The first valve adjustment is at 600-ish miles (everything is done in km in the manual). The next one is at 3000 miles, and every 3000 miles after that. Here's my post that breaks it down:
