• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Te 630 14 T Front Sprocket Ahhh... that's better.

Sorry for sounding really thick but I have been riding vespa and lambretta for years and only just got into the off road scene. If I want my bike to perform well on (90%) and off (10%) road, I am just looking for easy to ride good mpg etc etc.

The problem with the stock gearing is that first gear idle crawl speed is so high that tight maneuvering offroad requires a lot of clutch slipping. Going to a 14T counter really helps while affecting cruising speed minimally. At least that is my experience. IMO the bike is geared more to meet EPA regs than for best performance.

Some are even going up a couple of teeth on the rear for even lower gearing for offroad. I wouldn't mind trying 14-43 or 44 myself for all offroad use. Some have even gone 45.

This should answer all your questions including rpm changes at 75 mph and affected crawl speeds at 2000 rpm with various gearing options.. have at it and learn everything you need to know for your ride speeds and gearing solutions..

well....I feel a bit stupid today. I was sure you'd be able to remove the front sprocket on the 630 without breaking the chain - by just removing the clutch slave just enough to set it out of the way.
Tried that, didn't work. :banghead:
The case that the slave bolts to is in the way, not the slave....and btw, loosening the slave WILL let some oil out :censored:

So I popped the master link and swapped the 14t for the 15t.....and as I was doing it brown santa pulled up in front of the house and dropped off my 43t Ironman
Perfect timing

I spoke with Nate at Dirt Tricks when ordering it, and asked for a sprocket bolt kit with Nylok nuts, as I'd read a couple of loose sprocket bolt threads on the interwebz and wanted to cover that base. He uses Fuji-lock nuts, and threw in a set for free....but mentioned the bolts might be a couple mm too short, and if so don't use them, as the Fuji-locks need threads sticking out to get good purchase.

I'm taking off the oem sprocket bolts......lo and behold - the factory uses Fuji-lock nuts and liquid thread locker.
So I'm cleaning the dried goop from the oem bolts (the ones he included were too short) and putting it back together here after a bite to eat.

Just going to a 14 tooth COUNTER SHAFT SPROCK makes a huge diff for trail riding and i was able to run on interstate at 75mph turning 5250 to 5300rpm with a windshield 200lb rider

I wish I'd gone to the 14T sooner. Did it a few weeks ago and I'm another in the camp that says that the slower trail stuff is much easier (and easier on the clutch as well) and cruising at highway speed isn't an issue. Shoot- I'm glad to finally be using 6th gear. IMO- prior to going to the 14T- 65 or so in 6th loped too lazily for my comfort level....rpm's seemed lower than ideal to provide some worthy throttle response w/out dropping to 5th, and it almost seemed like a borderline lugging-the-engine situation which to me means you're a little too far off from pumping the ideal velocity/volume of oil and coolant through the system. Now on that latter point I'll grant that's probably not the case, but still for that reason I still feel better running the engine closer to it's happy range. Did the 14T and an FMF and it feels like a whole different bike now.
