    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I know alot of you have already dropped to a 14 tooth front sprocket, for those that have'nt, give it try. Now my 630 feels-accelerates almost like my 450 (ya-know...except for the extra 80 pounds)

What is sixth gear like now? I don't think I want to go all the way down a tooth in the front - that's about 3? teeth in the rear? I really like being able to just lope along at 75 in 6th. Having said that, if I'm only going 70 sixth is actually a little too tall. I'm thinking of just dropping a tooth on the rear to start.

I think Husky got it backwards with the TE having the taller 5th and 6th gears in the gearbox than the SMS... Anybody wanna swap cluster gears with me? haha

I agree with the simple instilation of a $20.00 Moose Racing or Renthal 14t sprocket, the overall gearing is much better. First gear is lower and you won't be grabbing for the clutch as often while driving slow. Top speed is still up to 100+ mph depending on engine mods. The stock chain can be used with out removing links.

The oem gears are bizarre with the TE630. I think the same engineer decided on the final gear ratio just after approving the kick stand :lol:.
The following TE630 gear ratios may help you:
Theoretical top speed at 7,000 RPMs in 6th gear with 15t/ 42t (oem gearing) is 110.7 mph. The bike won't pull those RPMs with any mods I'm aware of. My bike would hit a wall at 91mph and not go any faster with the stock gearing. To be fair it only had the power up kit installed and no other mods.
Theoretical top speed at 7,000 RPMs in 6th gear with 14t/ 42t is 103.3 mph. With a JD tuner, opened air box and some slip-on pipes the engine has much more power. My bike will now hit 100+ mph with 14t/42t and the mentioned engine mods. There is no reason to go those speeds other than to say the bike will do it :p.

2011 SM630, Theoretical top speed at 7,000 RPMs in 6th gear with 15t/ 38t (oem gearing) is 96mph. The 17" wheels (TE has an 18" rear) and different internal 5th and 6th gears result in a puzzling top speed. As RDTCU stated Husky got it backwards with the TE and SM gearing.

Dropping a tooth on the rear? You mean going up a tooth. I found a near new 45T SM610 sprocket I plan to swap out at my first rear tire change (if chain long enough). 15/45 sprockets will result in identical gearing to 14/42 sprockets. Plus advantage of larger sprockets is longer life and rear SMS sprocket is steel versus stock aluminum.

I'm sure your SM630 will pull beyond 7,000 RPMs in 6th gear. I was talking specificaly about a TE630 with stock gears. I can't imagine a TE630 doing 110mph without serious modifications but anything is possible.

With 15t/44t you may need a longer chain. Someone here will know for sure.

Oh I did, I doublechecked "max speed" once I slowed down...
 
I, for one think the TE 630 has the sweetest wide ratio 6 speed tranny on the planet! You can lope along the trail in 1st and cruise comfortable on the highway at pretty much any sane speed you want. Go down a tooth on front or up two or three on back or both to suit your driving habits and you are good to go! Perfect!
 
14 tooth for front, makes it happy on the single track trails, leaves lots of speed on the highway for those fun tickets!
 
Unless your using your TE for a pavement pounder all the time a 14T front is a no-brainer. Will handle single track with a bit of clutch work and still cruises comfortable at highway speeds. Best tranny on any dualsport I've ever had.

I believe they changed the gearing for the TE630 and that with a 14 t front sprocket the gearing would be the same
as the 610. 14/42 TE630 down one in front and 15/45 TE610?

Yes, an 06'-09' TE610 came stock with 15t/ 45t which is the same as 14t/ 42t
