  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I have this intermitent issue when out in the hills... The engine feels as if it has some type of limiter on it. See attached link to video. I have felt it sometimes when holding close to full throttle, but stands out when in neutral, and at half throttle. I have told the dealer, however the response was there have been no issues with any other sold in oz. Does anyone have any knowledge that may help?

I haven't even seen a 2011 in person- but I know you have a different coil/spark plug cap set-up. I would check everything working backwards from the sparkplug, checking connections and grounds. I have had a (slightly) loose coil/ground that acted like a rev-limiter.

No solutions here but it would be very easy for anyone else with this bike to repro the issue with their bike after seeing your video ...

Sound like a rev limiter to prevent people to over rev engine with no load to me, just like race bike and car at the drag strip. Many newer cars are equipped with with one now. Does the bike run normally when riding it, if you are in gear and WOT does the bike will go or do the exact same ting?

I agree, sounds like a rev limiter. As mentioned, it could be set to have a lower rev limit when in neutral. But, I also agree it would be nice to know what the RPM's are when it does it.

At what RPM is the cutting out happening?

I will check tomorrow morn and get back to ya's. btw Husky assures me there is no rev limiter set.. I'll be doin the rain dance tonight! (shes pretty dry and dusty in perth at the mo.)

It still rides great, but 'limiter phenomenon' occurs at quite high revs. As my preference is tightish single track, it's only happedened riding a couple of times..(fast flowing stuff) I still want to sort it out., and because of the lack of knowledge from the dealer i'm in a bit of a pickle. The dash reads 'race map 2' which I'm now figuring may be a road set-up, therefore possibly limiting. Doesn't mention any relating info in the 'quick manual.'

the easiest way to test a temp sensor is with Ibeat (on the 08-10s) I don't know what the 11's with the Keihin system uses...
You can check the temp sensor with an ohm Meter:

I assume- Motosportz's suggestion comes because it could be fueling or advancing spark incorrectly- if the temp sensor is bad. Thus making some strange running.

In the video- it sounded like the guy recording it was saying "one quarter" and "Half"... and the motor sounded like it was hitting a revlimiter.
Seems easy to guess if you were running 10-12000 rpms that your hitting a rev limiter- but you have not reported that- just that it does it sometimes and even in single track. That's why I don't think its a rev limiter unless its a Revlimiter- that comes on at lower RPMs when in newtral.

I'd still check your Cap and wire from the spark plug back and check the coil grounds. Maybe theres a problem with that new spark plug cap set up on yours... (not alot of experience to draw from there)

oh there's a rev limiter on the TE449/511's alright, this I know

U must be competing for the championship if you are REVing that 450 out over the top side ...

ha,,, no not at all ray ray, just a regular joe blo livin the life in the hills. Just gives me the shits when purchasing a new machine you can't get confirmation why it limits like this. I've reluctantly given it back to the dealer for testing etc (as I do love the 511). Should find out tomorrow arvo. Also havn't got confirmation if it has to do with race mapping.,, or how to change the race map.. Time will tell.

All fuel injected bikes have rev limiters and most carb'd bikes of recent vintage too, it's nothing unique to the Husky and rev limiters are a good thing rather then having the bike puke it's guts on one of those hill climbs. The 449 and particularly the 511 do a lot better when short shifted anyhow in my experiences.
