  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 Hot Start Problems.... Starts like Crap

9880sts

Husqvarna
AA Class
got the 511 2013 . Starts fine when cold. But when i stall the bike in tide stuff or over rocks etc, it just wont start right away. It takes for ages , every Kickstarter is faster. I have to give it 2-3 try's. Or twist the throttle slightly. I did the reset. Hope i understood that instruction anyways. There are many resets out. I am just tired of all this crap. You buy a Husky and you have to keep adding things to get the bikes properly running.
Zip Ty Oil Breather ???!!! WTF
MAP what ever ??!!!
do this , do that who really want's that.
I find myself in a position where i have to Question myself, if i did the right decision to buy a 511.
Just my Honest opinion after another day out with other Brands .

I understand. I was having hot start problems also. I wish I could tell you the exact fix, but I did several things.
Does not sound like you want to hear about more thing to do to her? I have done just about all the popular modifications
And then some, my bike ran very good when new, then I had the hot start problem, got it under control now.
With all the modifications, I still have a bike that is way cheaper than the KTM. I guess your at the place where you
decide to deal with what you have, or switch over, take your loss and get you some KTM. The 511 is/can be a great
bike. If your stuck with her, make the best of it. It's hard to start when hot so, check the valve clearance, do a TPS
Reset, have it plugged in at the dealer when she is hot, you did not state if it was hard turning over, or just would
Not start? If its not turning over good, battery check, starter solenoid, wiring connections etc. if its turning over
Nicely, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, a connection somewhere, temp. Sensor, start looking. I am sure the folks
on here will try and help, hope you can repair, resolve your problem or make a comfortable decision.
these thing are supposed to be fun!

I followed the TPS reset instructions to a T and I apparently was missing something or the 2013s are unique. My dealer performed an "official" TPS reset and all the issues vanished.

Bike has been flawless since.

Your hot start issues are not because of a faulty brand. I have seen this before on many of the efi bikes and is usually caused by either a faulty water temperature sensor or a fuel pump. The fuel pump could also explain your lack of power if you have map#3 installed.

Get map#3 instead.
got that and the stock aussie akro pipe. but still far from throttle response and snappynes then the ktm 530. i am in doubt about the 511. All these things we discuss here....... Oilspilling - Map 3 and wtf - Resetting TB - Gearing - .... Its just not comparable with the KTM 530 at all. I got the 511 , i like it, but it all goes to a certain degree. My friends KTM is completley Stock. It will shred the 511. Just had a ride on it again.

I actually posted this in a different thread, but I will help you here instead because the other thread is dead.

First off, I own both those models and they are both really good bikes. I prefer my 511, though I have spent the time into it. It has traction control, suspension and horsepower my KTM will never have. It's just a fun bike. I can help you with yours if you wish.

Okay, so you are sure you have map#3 in, is the power up plug installed too? Did you increase your idle up?

I'm assuming the stock pipe is just the TXC Akropovic silencer? That silencer is actually very choked down and heavy I might add. A FMF Powercore 4 or equivalent will yield much more power, is lighter and will keep the engine cooler. Husqvarna sells an air box cover which has holes in the left hand side above the radiator. You can add these same holes and screen to your stock one. This makes the engine much snappier.

2012 TC449 Air box cover. $23.99

Just my two cents this forum rocks , and those such as myself that are still learning the Husky , really appriciate you guys that have been there and done that !

The Air Lid for the TC449 is here in Australia $120.... What a Joke. But i will sort that out.

Just checked today... Power up Plug Installed. The Map 3 or Akro setting is on. i was there when it happend, and the change was quite noticeable. I did the reset for the TBS and no change.
i am going to install the FMF PC4 this weekend. Cut holes in the lid tomorrow. The Breather i have just ordered and paid 89 dollar shipping to Australia. I hope this thing is here maybe by the end of the week. Would be great at least.
But thanks for any help.

I've got a '13, 511 also. The hot starting problems I've had seem to be related to a new, tight engine and what I've thought was a bit of a weak stock battery. It just has a bit of trouble spinning the engine when warm/hot.

The oem fuel pumps seem to have decreased pressure when hot and that makes for hard starting. We replace all of our lead acid batteries with Earthx batteries. I need to look into creating a fuel pump kit.

Hi Tinken,
I ordered that Breather Valve last night. would u know when it will ship ? With 89 dollar shipping, i probably get it within 3-4 days ?

We will adjust the shipping for AUS. Did you order just the breather or with recycle tank/the drain back kit?

Just the breather. I am ok with the shipping when the part comes recently quick.
ps: are you guys ok when i put the zip ty Logo on the Sticker Kit ? if yes you may send me the AI or eps file. Thanks

Installed FMF Powercore 4
Reset the TPS ( several times)
Cut out the TC airlid Marks and installed a screen on em.

went for a 180km ride monday. Big River Camp site VIC Australia to Woods Point and Back. heaps of single track an Hill after hill. long hills 2-3 kms up and down.

I am amazed by the increase of torque and throttle response.
Now i can say the 530 is no more further issue.

But as you can see the Oil spilling is still going on, and with only 900mm in there, boing up and down hill for so long is not really ideal. I can hear it bubbling when i stall the bike on a waiting point. What a dum idea to place a breather on the gearcase... WTF...
The only bike spilling oil at the pub, my husky 511......................
The front tire spill is water, but the other two ones are plain oil.

once I've got the breather moved from Gearcase to Rockerarm, there should not much come out anymore unless i drop the bike . But that would be ok.
I could route the Stock breater hose to Rockerarm and t that into the Airbox. All oil coming from the top can drain back through gearcase. With the Breather on the top, there should be no pressure build up from the stock breather opening. No need for drain back into Filler plug or drain plug.
hope the Parts are here soon, Last time it took for ages with US postal service almost 3 weeks.

Oil will not drain back into oem case breather. Please review my breather thread for details.

Wow, I've seen pics of oil puke, but that's unreal. Makes me want to tip back a pint in your honor just for seeing your trouble.

Tinken, you might want to hold a bottle kit in reserve for 9880sts. He surely is a great candidate!
