I just installed a FMF Power Core 4 exhaust and the bike will flame out as soon as I let off the throttle. Is there a cure for this, or is a JD tuner my best option? Thanks.
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
Dan, turning the brass screw on the EFI will up the idle and make the bike not pop anymore. that's all Bills did to mine and it runs perfect. Still going to work with the JD X2 to see if there is more performance / fuel milage and better running hidden in there but right now my bike is 100% and rips.
Reduced back pressure from the exhaust allows more air to flow past the throttle body and more fuel must be added to compensate or a lean flame out will occur.

bypass adjustment to cure low throttle stall: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/new-muffler-for-te-449.19761/#post-173176
Do you have the map shunt installed? Are you in race map II configuration?
If the new map setting & tbi bypass adjustment doesn't cure your problem, I would suggest grounding your frame and tbi unit in reference to one of my links posted above.

The JD tuner will not cure flame outs, flame outs are a lean tbi burst error caused by the keihin ecu mapping. The JD tuner is an inexpensive way to add fuel on top of the stock mapping which results in more power. The only way to cure flame-outs is to replace the keihin maps with a new ecu unit which allows map adjustment such as the powercommander 5 or Bazzaz, who both have units available.

I asked Ty Davis today about the Bazzaz. He said, while the Bazzaz is cheaper, it has a very large harness. He said that both units are very high quality, but that the pcv is worth the extra money/effort and is what they used on the race bikes. They had higher gains on the 250/310s than the 449s, but the 511 had much higher performance. He also said that each bike could be dyno'd and tuned to amazing results.Interesting topic. Can one of those units be used in conjunction with the JD Tuner or would you have to remove it ? Also, which unit is better
between the PC V or Bazzaz ? I'm also going to do the ground wire thing you suggested. Thanks for the info.
