    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I have a 2006 TE-510 and went for a ride this weekend. The bike always started good but by the end of the ride if was having a hard time starting.

Description of the problem: When i start the bike i always pull the decompression lever in to get it spinning and just release it to try to start it. By the end of the day i would pull the decompression lever and once i let it go the starter would get denied by the compression of the motor. I would try to start it a few times before it would turn over enough to start it. It did spin one or two times without engaging.

Questions:
Can the start be taken apart? I think its possible some water might have gone in the starter. I went in a deep mud hole up to the lower tank.
I'm also going to check the battery but it was good before the right.
What else should i check?
 
in addition to verifying battery and connections/ kickstarting attempts fruitless? see below

1- valve clearances
2-compression- to verify if the Auto Decompression (ADC) is working 115-120 it is, over 140+ it definitely is not (go back to #1 and verify) if clearances are good- inspect ADC on exhaust cam and replace as necessary.
 
I had problems starting as well, took the starter apart, it was a waste of time, starter was fine.

HUSKYnX is right, check the valve clearance on the right side exhaust valve, if its too loose, the ADC wont work.

When the problem happens again, tilt the bike to the right as far as you can and see if that helps the bike to start. If it does, you need to replace the ADC spring.

How many miles/hours on the bike? I ask, as I have 7000 miles on my TE, it's mapped rich, and I think I have a carbon buildup problem, thereby increasing the 12:1 compression ratio to something even higher, which the ADC and the starter are not equipped to handle. You might need to pull the head and see if you have a carbon build-up problem.
 
i have about 1000miles since i rebuilt it....Is the lever that u pull the ADC or is there something else u are talking about?? When i pull the lever i can let the start spin all day long
 
The lever is the manual decompressor, it opens the right side exhaust valve and keeps it open. Without compression, the bike won't start. Hold that lever for the first revolution of the starter and then let go of it, lean the bike to the right as you do this, see if the bike can overcome the compression stroke like that.

What thickness head gasket did you use when you rebuilt it?
 
I didnt know the bike had auto decompression.
I ordered whatever was stock for the head gasket.
I dont understand why leaning it should make a difference. Would you be able to explain why it would make it easier to start if i lean it over to the right?

The Automatic Decompressor (ADC) is a weighted cam lobe that bleeds off about 60% of the compression at cranking speeds (less than 1000 RPMs or thereabouts). In the picture below, at the bottom, you can see the lobe touching the rocker arm, pushing it to open the valve and let off some compression, this allows the starter to turn the motor. If your ADC spring is weak or if your ADC lobe is mal-functioning (worn or bent), an easy way to tell is to lean the bike to the right and that helps the weight (the C-shaped thing near the top) to work to HELP the ADC stay in position, then, after starting and above 1000 RPMs, the weight is what swings the ADC lobe away from the rocker arm.

I learned this when I messed up my ADC spring, replaced it with something that was too weak, I discovered that my bike would start with the e-start if I leaned it to the right.

It's just 1 thing you can do that's easy and it will confirm or remove one cause of the bike not getting past the compression stroke.

Hello people !!! I have a similar problem. My bike dosent start on Sea level :eek:. I know it sounds crazy, but whean i go to the beach i have to push the bike for start. Husvarna in Ecuador told me that everythig is working fine, and they dont know what to do. :mad:. Check de Temp sensor, techeck the valv calibration. Check the starter. and nothing. Any helP?
